Sharpest New Out Of The Box?

That looks like an Otnat to me... I've never had a Bolus, though.

I've always assumed that the Otnat is a model within the Bolus series and the model name refers to the blade shape. (Reverse Tanto in this case)

Mike does not list the Otnat as a Bolus in the individual listings but at the top of the CK02 page he introduces all CK02 models as the Bolus Series. It's only an assumption but I think the Otnat is the Bolus Otnat the same as the Clip blade model is the Bolus Clip.

Exactly
The Bolus knife is a series that can be ordered with an otnat, clip, or drop blade. If I'm not mistaken, the otnat is the original and the drop and clip came after.

USA made Buck has been very sharp.

Cold Steel knives have been consistently very sharp for me (knives, not machete or hawks, which is expected).

I've had some very sharp Opinel (and a few dull ones).

So, when I said I'd never had a Bolus.......... I lied. :(

I have an Otnat in snakewood. I didn't know they were all the same "family". That is good to know. Great knives....

Buck Knives have always been consistently sharp out of the box. This particular Buck 110 is the sharpest knife I've ever had out of the box - 420 HC.

SOG and Moki aren't far behind in my experiene. Also, a Maserin Plow from @knifeswapper at Collector Knives came with a very sharp D2 steel blade.

I know. I read all your posts about it. You had an influence :)
Now I find out you didn't know anything :p:D

I concur that Buck has impressed me for their out of the box sharpness. I had a 110 made in Buck's custom shop for my grandson when he graduated from high school that was the sharpest out of the box I've ever seen. I have saw consistently sharp blades from RR even though their price point is so low just saying.
This is not the 110 I bought for Austin but one @glennbad installed stag covers on and it's scalpel sharp but it's edge may have had a little help from
me. :D

I know.... feet of clay...
it's so difficult for me to admit that I don't, in fact, know everything. Just don't tell my grand daughters.... they still think I do..
so much for my "idol" status amongst all you young folks... :( :D

I wish. Young is relative. I'm pretty much headed full speed ahead into geezerdom. I have three retired friends and we take day trips to do stuff. I once said we were a teenagers worst nightmare - geezers in a mini-van :D

mbkr mbkr I thought teenager's and café waitresses' worst nightmare is over-weight old geezers riding high end carbon fiber road racing bicycles in full kit. :)

EDIT:
For the record, I only have a old (1989) mountain bike, and an Miami Sun adult trike.
I rarely wear a cycling jersey and/or shorts of any kind when riding ... or any other time, for that matter...

I ain't no wanna be racer. My racing days ended long before I was born.

I've been positively impressed with the notable sharpness of my Opinels when they arrived.

From my experience, SAK and JE Made knives have both come very sharp out of the box. The GEC #92 Eureka Jack I just received a week ago was not sharp, but a few minutes on the strop and it was in good shape.

I bought a NOS Queen #49 that someone decided should be ready for surgical use before it got put in the box. Could have been better geometry, but the clip and the spey were ferociously sharp and without burrs. Most other "new" traditional folders I've bought new have had just "ok" edges down to terrible (burrs AND incomplete apexing on the same blade. Lookin at you, Case)

Fixed blades, my Helle Harding has been the sharpest production sample out of the tube. Unless you want to count CPK as production or traditional, they might have been right there with it, but its sort of hard to compare scandi grind edges to 'regular' bevels.
