I had a customer request a knife that would work well in the field. He runs a private hunting outfit in S. Dakota.

My grandfather was a butcher and avid hunter, the knife that he used the most was the old Schrade Sharpfinger (Made in USA).

Steel: 1/8" 1095 (W/Hamon?
OAL: 9.75"
Blade: 4.75"

Misc: Tapered Tang, Mosaic Pin

Here it is compared to my Grandfathers Sharpfinger:

There have been MANY attempts to duplicate or riff on the sharpfinger, and this is the only one I've ever liked!
That's very tastefully done.

That is a beautiful take on my favorite design. Nicely done.

I have often wanted a Persian - Sharpfinger cross design in a fighting style knife, this is real close....cool knife.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I am not sure how I feel about the little lip at the choil. I believe it will serve a purpose when processing game but that was the only thing I would change if I made another.

I actually have what I would call a persian fighter in the works for another customer Bear.

I like the way you did the choil. My only complaint about the Schrade Sharpfinger is the fact that the edge does not go all the way to the choil. I would much prefer your design.

Yol, I never understood why the Sharpfinger wasn't sharpened all the way. With it sharpened it makes a great cutting edge while gutting.

IMO the choil on this design is kind of counter productive because you have to Lift the handle up while working to catch that edge, which in turn causes the upswept tip to be directed into the animals innards. A drop point with this feature would make more sense to me.

I did think it would be helpful to put a 1 - 2" Sharpened Clip on the top edge (Basically back to the Hamon Edge) which would make the cut from Stem to Stern much easier. I will draw something up explaining what I mean. and post it up while I have your attention  (DRAWING POSTED BELOW)

here is what I was referring to. I am not a big "Gut Hook" guy but this is what I feel to be a modified Gut hook that eliminates the problems I find the Hook portion.

Ryan, your work keeps getting better and better.

This is a VERY clean design with pleasing proportions and great lines. Everything flows very well and everything fits here. Nothing out of place. I can tell that you've put some thought in this design.

I can see the sharpfinger influence but with a spin on it that's all your own. The handle is nicely shaped and the finish looks to be nice and clean. And I can picture in my mind what the tapered tang does for the balance.

I can tell, being an avid hunter and outdoorsman myself, that this would work VERY well in the field on a variety of game for a variety of tasks.

EXCELLENT work!!

Hope to see you in Boise.

I really appreciate that John, I will definitely see you in Boise. Still not sure if it will be at your Table or one of my own!

Thank you Paul, This is actually the Walnut you sent me. I had it Stabilized, polishes up really nice!

That's a beaut, just a fantastic knife overall, from the handle to the hamon. Any photos of the sheath for the complete package?

Ryan, I am dying to see your next interpretation of this. It will be very close to perfect.

7rip- I will be working on the sheath Tomorrow, Will post that up when done!

Love to hear what is missing? :D

Ah, I didn't even recognize it (I was thinking the piece I sent had more 'feather' figure?) Anyway, I really like what you did with your interepretation of the Sharpfinger design.

Nice design Ryan. The trailing point is a hard design to nail, and I think you hit it on the head.
