Hey guys, just wondering if the only grind that a sharpmaker can't sharpen is convex? Also, if you're using a flat table sander, what kind of a grind are you doing? Flat right?

Sharpens convex pretty well for me. It just adds a tiny microbevel. This is on the convex edges off my belt sander, not primary gound convex blades. I only have one of those and when I sharpen it, I use the slack belt on my sander.

I would say flat, yes.

I too touch up my convex edges on the Sharpmaker. It's nice to know exactly what angle the micro-bevel is at, it makes for very consistent edges.

Another vote for finishing up convex edges/grinds with a Sharpmaker (or CrockSticks, etc.) Saves a great deal of time and effort, ideal for touch-ups and edge maintenance.

+1 for the sharpmaker... it really puts a wicked edge on a convex edge and is really excellent for maintenance...:D

Any of the jig sharpeners puts a flat edge on a knife, whether the edge bevel is convex or not. BTW- there is no advantage to a convex edge. Most edges end up being basically convex anyway.

Amen there Bill. I must say I do find a full convex grind very appealing visually.
