I just got a Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker a few days ago there were a few small chips along the corners of one of the medium/gray stones. Before I sharpened my nicer knives, I used some dull kitchen knives. I was following the direction exactly and after a while, when I inspected the stone, I noticed a small chip in the middle of the stone. When I go over it with my nicer knives, I definitely feel the knife go into it. There were also a few light scratches and nicks on one of the flat surfaces that goes into the stone. This is all on only one stone.
Is the medium stone very easy to chip and make noticeable scratches? The same knife on other stones did not scratch or nick. I have a knife with some small sharp chips that I am afraid to use on the stones because I don't want it to mess up my stones. In the DVD that came with the kit, Sal used the brown stone to take files of a filer, why is mine so fragile? Is it just that one stone that may be defective?
Besides that, it's great. I used it to reprofile and sharpen my Ontario Rat-3 shaving sharp. Took me a while, but I did. Also when I bought the sharpmaker, I also picked up the Deilca wave, awesome knife. My new EDC.
