I have many sharpeners of all sorts - Arkansas stones, diamond stones, strops, etc. But I don't have a sharpmaker. Last week I finally broke down and ordered one.

The UPS tracking said that it would arrive today. To my surprise, last night when I checked the tracking, it said that it had already been delivered. I checked right away, and no box was on the porch. I asked everyone in the house, and checked with the neighbors. Still no box. This morning I called UPS and the shipper, now they have an investigation going.

What are my chances of getting a sharpmaker now? Has anyone had this happen? Our porch is screened by plants, so you can't see boxes from the street. And I live on a very quiet street anyway. I just wonder what will come of it. If the delivery driver claims to have left it on my porch, what recourse do I have?

Isn't the delivery driver responsible for the safe delivery of the good to the orderer (or somebody else) who will sign for it to PROVE it has been delivered? Dont't know where you're from, but I or somebody else signed for each and every parcel I've recieved.

Just leaving it lying around like in this case isn't exactly a "delivery"....

Good luck with this!

Dennis

Murdoc370 is correct - unless you specifically specify that you want items left in your porch if no-one answers, then they should get it signed for... they can't call leaving it lying around a delivery...

If its signed for, it'll be listed somewhere.. I have a friend who once had a spare part for an expensive bike part go missing under similar circumstances... turned out, apparently someone DID sign it, under his name!!!!

After an investigation, he was advised that the part had turned up in 'someone's locker at their work place, and sent it back to him, platinum delivery with compensation... looks as though the delivery driver signed it off and kept it!!!!

Hopefully the investigation will be thorough.. most companies look upon missing items or possible theft of items very seriously, and internal investigations in large companies are usually quite rigourous...

Best of luck.. and remember, if they just say: was signed for by... and you didn't sign it yourself or you know it wasn't signed for, raise hell and claim that someone in their company stole it... they'll soon buck their ideas up and check it out...

Basically, don't take any crap ;)

I had the the same thing happen to me. I reported it missing after tracking showed it delivered to my back door. Later the same day, a neighbor from a few streets over delivered my package. Seems that mr ups man delivered my package to the back door of his house, same house number but different street name. Anything can happen I guess.

I have never received a box from UPS that I didn't have to sign for. If I am not home when they deliver there is always a delivery notice on my door.

Something differen,t "Canada Post" did that with a 5.11 vest order I had last year. I showed up 10 months late! Good luck on your order, I hate having to wait for a package as well.

I don't think I've ever received a package from them that I DID have to sign for. I just find them sitting on my doorstep.

ups-just drops and runs-
today i got back a knife from kershaw sent ups-never knew the guy came by till i let the dog out and saw the box-

hell a few years ago they left 3 grand worth of audio amps in the snow bank at my house

Around here UPS drops and runs. If you are lucky they ring the doorbell before they walk away. Without a signature they can't provide evidence that it was properly delivered, and that is the approach I will take with them. All I know for sure is that my package was scanned by the driver at 4:08 PM on Wednesday. It's funny that their home deliveries are done this way. Whenever they deliver at my work they get a signature.

I have had some pretty expensive shipments just left on the doorstep before. And I have heard from people in other states (where C&R licenses are actually allowed) that they will get firearms dropped on their doorsteps without signature.

It's just a bummer that I will have to wait for this to get worked out. If I don't hear back from UPS by the middle of next week, I'll start bugging them.

UPS drops stuff at my house all the time with no signature, i cant believe they do it myself, but they certainly do lol,

Don't panic. This only happened yesterday. You haven't even had time to tell them yet. The most likely mistake is that it was dropped off at the same number, different street, as IUKE12 had happen to him. Call, be cool, complain but don't get crazy, give them a day or two.

UPS always drops packages on our back porch, and this is a small apartment house with doctor's offices downstairs -- patients, strangers, also neighborhood kids, passing through the parking lot all day. Haven't lost one in ten years. I still prefer USPS because they have access to putting packages inside the locked door.

At least our UPS regulars will ring a bell or knock on the door, and they wave to me when they drive past in the street -- that's how many packages I get! :D

I've had one package misdirected. Right name, house number off by 2 which put it accross the street. He didn't even try to figure it out. After 2 weeks and no knife returned to me or the shipping store I'm afraid I got a bit angry. I "accidentially" scared the guy a little. The knife then showed up at the shippers store again.

It wasn't untill later that I found out this guy was an attorney. It made me glad that I stayed under control with the guy, and gave him no freebie mistakes to use in calling the police. Speaking of police, that's what kind of knife it was. It was reshipped to me in perfect condition and I still have it to this day. Joe

The shipper can arrange for a signature required with UPS as can be done through USPS. UPS delivers to me often and puts packages on my front porch, back porch, in the garage if unlocked and even in my vehicle in the driveway.

Best to first check with them and possibly check the details on-line if you have the tracking #.

The shipper should take responsibility for the delivery of your purchase.

Good Luck,
Peter

A good idea, if you get many shipments from UPS is to contact your local office and make drop off arrangements. We have a gate at the beginning of our driveway and became concerned when a few pricey packages were left at the gate when we weren't home. We requested delivery notices be left if the gate was closed and they were very accommodating. Haven't had a problem since.

I once ordered a VCR from HSN or Shop At Home and they said it would be delivered UPS I said, "OK!" Several days no VCR I give them a call. They tell me it was delivered, no signature. No Signature! No Insurance? I said, "What did they do, you leave it on the front steps of my building?" they said, "Probably". I said, "Are you people out of your friggin' minds, this is Brooklyn, you leave something in front of a building and the first person that walks by it going to take it. I'd stand a better chance of getting my package if you just threw it in the East River and you let me know what time you'd think it might be floating by. Oh, by the way Cancel my order."

Good luck with your Sharpmaker.

All's well that ends well. This morning I called UPS to get an update on their investigation. They said they had nothing new.

Today when I got home, the package was on my porch. I looked up the tracking information, it shows delivery 4/18 and delivery 4/23. No explanation. At least I got it.

You know what happened. You complained, they asked the delivery driver, he said duh, i dunno -- and he ran real quick to get it from the wrong place where he remembered dropping it off. :D

The good news is, he will be very careful where he puts your packages from now on.
