Golok,
Try using Comet or Ajex cleaner.. I get my rods white with them with no problem. load up the scrubby end of a sponge and wash them down very little water at first,, then rinse them off.

I like the idea of adding steeling rods/burnisher. Sometimes it is better to fix a bent edge rather then just take off a pile of steel. I would also like to see a larger version of the 204. The current version is excellent, but a larger one would work better on big knives.
