Sharpmaker - Is it OK to use the fish hook side for sharpeing a knife?

Is it OK to use the fish hook side on the Sharpmaker rods for sharpening a knife?

I was thinking I wouldn't have to stop and clean the rods so often.

It does seem like a waste to me. I don't have any fish hooks.

Just be careful with the tip about pushing it into the groove, you could easily break it off.

thanks for the replies - I will start using it.

I think I'm becoming a sharpening nut. I can not wait for the Sunday newspaper so I can cut it up and sharpen the knife some more.
