Has anyone with a Sharpmaker seen this before? I just got this in trade, he said it was brand new, but I can't seem to figure out how one of the rods got this way. Does ceramic warp? Will this affect the performance of the Sharpmaker? Sal, have you ever seen this before?

Whoa that's weird looking.

That bend may affect the sharpening angle somewhat, and I doubt the previous owner did anything to make it look that way. Odds are it came from the factory that way. In the past one or two rods have come up that are defective. Usually they're chipped though, this is the first time I've seen a warped rod.

Sal or Kristi will let you know when they see this thread.

Yeah, I wasn't implying the previous owner had anything to do with it (in case you're following all this, Jim), and I can't see how this can be anything but a factory defect. As long as it won't overly affect the performance of the Sharpmaker, I don't care. I just thought it was kind of strange.

No sweat Raindog, Check your email. I had a 701 stone like it once and spyderco replaced it, no questions asked. Sorry, I should have checked it out,
it was a gift last year and had not had reason to use it. My mistake.
Warranty & Repair should fix you right up. Or we can swap back, don't want unhappy friends.
