Sharpmaker owners: 30* or 40*?

It usually depends on the knife. Most spyderco's come at a 30 degree or at least seem like it so I maintain them at that. Kitchen knives get 30 as well. Pretty much everything else see's 40 or a belt sander depending on what it is and what its for.
 
Thing is there's no real definitive answer. It all comes down to personal preference.

Do you prefer an ultimate slicer edge? 30 degrees it is. Do you prefer something that won't dull as easily? 40 degrees it is.

You have a steel that chips easy? 40 degrees, something that doesn't (like for instance ZDP steel)? maybe 30 degrees.

There are up and downsides to everything.
