sharpmaker rods

Darn, Codeman, I wish you hadn't given them such a great review. I thought I was going to be able to live without them!

PS, my wife wants a word with you.

Just FYI, I called Spyderco today and they told me that they are now out of the UF rods. I didn't ask about the diamond rods. He did say that he expected another shipment of UF rods and said to check back "in a few days".

Spyderco was demostrating them at the shot show. They reprofiled a knife I had with me in about 30 seconds. They finised the edge with the white sticks and it was shaving sharp in less than a minute. They said they would cost apx. $100 a pair.

Ultra Fine stones are available again on the Spyderco Factory Outlet Store website.

Hey Lurker, just tell her you were thinking of her. After, diamonds are a girl's best friend! Then again, advice like that may be why mine's now called ex...

Sal, can you now purchase the kit "whole" or do you need to order the new rods seperately, and from whom at what price ?
Been waiting to order a Shrrp..... until this addition is a part of the package.
Thanks,
Mrdi

As far as I know they are still in the trial stages, only offered to us here in the forums for "testing". There a re possibilities for full kits but who knows if it will happen or not. BTW, the Ultra Fines rock

Just ordered my Sharpmaker diamond rods for $49.95 (plus $3.95 USPS Priority Mail shipping) last night from BestKnives.com. I recommend searching for Sharpmaker+diamond on Yahoo! Shopping. I always get the best deals there.

Right now the ultra fine rods are only available through the Spyderco Factory Outlet. They are still an experimental run.

The diamond rods are a new regular production item, and they should be getting to dealers as we speak. Because of their high cost it is unknown whether they will ever be part of a complete sharpmaker kit in the future.

Bob,
Try here . A word of advice...make sure you put "2" in the quantity, or you'll only get one. I found out the hard way today. Pretty damn hard to sharpen a knife with only one of them suckers! :p

Mine arrived today. FINALLY got my Mini-Commander sharp, and re-profiled my TTKK.

Probably take a whack at my Obenauf Small model 1 later tonight or tomorrow.

Much impressed.

P.S. Is there any difference in the "grit" of the angles -vs- the flats of the diamond stones?

I experimented with 3 rather dull and chipped old kitchen carvers and all 3 had a nice new edge on them within the hour! Very impressive. I like the fact that it doesn't remove too much metal. It gives the user more control over the final edge.
