Sharpmaker

I should clarify that I have Edge Pro Apex with silicone carbide stones for regular sharpening and reprofiling. I am considering Sharpmaker for a quick touch up.
Thanks for your input.

One thing to note is that sharpmaker only have 15 dps and 20 dps so when you profile your edge on edge pro, make sure they are slightly less for easier touch up on the sharpmaker.

I sharpen most of my knives 16-17 dps without micro bevel and use 20 dps on sharpmaker to touch up and that becomes my micro bevel.

On thin slicer blades such as Delica, domino and the likes i some times sharpen them to 12-13 dps and use sharpmaker on 15 dps to form the micro.

Looks great. Can you share your procedure with it?

Most of the time I can get away with just using the UF stones or stropping. I'll run the whole gambit if the blades need. Starting with the diamond rods right up to the UF stones and I'll use the strop last. I don't need much more than this. I bought a work shape with the Grinder attachment for anything real bad. ( but that usually when I buy a used knife that needs some attention )

I should that I don't use the diamonds on the SE. And barely ever use the medium stones on the SE.

As much as I like and recommend the Spyderco 204 Sharpmaker I still prefer Spyderco's older/discontinued 701 Profile kit to do serrations with. Those 701 files can do your serrations to where they look like they came directly from the factory. I very much wish they would return to the product line because I've talked to several people over the past 6 months who feel exactly the way I do. I anxiously wondering what the new, upcoming GAUNTLET system is going to use to sharpen Spyderedges with? I can't wait till the GAUNTLET hits the market>> I also hope at some point that they offer the GOLDENSTONE in more grit selections as well.

I have a set of 701's never thought to use them on SE. I only recently got into SE. (Now I don't leave the house without one) by any chance do you know of a video on how to use them I did a quick search on YouTube and didn't find anything. I have a fully serrated and a combo blade in zdp that Have been giving me problems.

I had a good friend who went to the BLADE Show in Atlanta GA back in June of this year. He said that Spyderco had a prototype of it on display at their booth. Other than that I haven't heard anything about it's release date or what the kit is going to be capable of. I'm hoping that they do release it before the winter is over. I'm really anxious to try it out and see how it's going to compare to the 204 Sharpmaker. I don't know what their delay is all about. Because I heard them talking about the GAUNTLET about two years ago. It must be something involved with the manufacturing of the unit is my only guess as to why it hasn't hit the market yet.
