The 204 is great, even an idiot like myself can put an absolutely razor sharp edge on a knife with no effort. The angle is always consistent, no fuss, no worries.
It handles recurve edges like a champ, hawkbills are no problem either.

Oh Yes! It has proven to be one of the best knife investments I ever made. Major re-profiling is somewhat of a problem, but early next year diamond stones will be available. This will alleviate the problem. Go for it.
I love mine. Don't know how I would sharpen my knives without it. My father in law was saying how he could not sharpen knives. That is going to change when he opens up his gift.
My wife got me a sharpmaker as an early christmas present. It's great! Even shapened her scissors. Now my knives cut hair just by barely brushing the blade against the skin. Amazing! I thought that I would never be able to get my knives that sharp. Great investment!
I dont own one, but I gave on to my girlfriend for a Christmas gift this year, she seems truly pleased with it, after only having had it for a day.
I got hers from Knifecenter (cant remember the URL www.knifecenter.com ?) good price on it, and it shipped fast, via USPS (got to have things sent to a P.O. ox so UPS wont work.)
Ah yes... the sign of a great friend... the one that gives his girlfriend (me!) a spiffy knife sharpener for Christmas (thanks Satin!)
It really is a good tool - in a few minutes i had my Buck Mentor sharp enough to cut arm hair, and i also ended up sharpening a knife for my dad, and my uncle, and my cousin had to try it out... So in my not so humble opinion i would say its a good buy.
I've had the first model (only one angle setting) for eight years now. It is definitely the best "knife" investment you could possible make. If you have quality knives and can't keep them razor sharp, what's the point? The Sharpmaker is simple to use and a breeze to maintain.
I have found that a product called "Bar Keeper's Friend" works wonderfully at removing metal build up on the ceramic rods. It seems to work a lot better than Comet IMHO. I sprinkle some on a wet green scouring pad and work the stone back and forth. It's as simple as that.
