I bought a black s30v millie last month, and I love it to death, but like any well used knife it eventualy got dull. A few days ago I perchased a sharpmaker, that too I love to death, I can't tell you how happy I am with it. I didn't know a SAK could be so sharp, I have probably sharpened 20-30 knives around the house. My question is, will my millie hold a good edge if I sharpen it with the 30degree setting, or should I stick with the 40degree.
I would also like the know if the ultra fine rods make a noticeable difference in sharpness. thanks for your time.

The 30 degree setting should be fine, and in my experience the UF rods do make a noticeable difference in sharpness.

Can't give any advice on the 30 deg setting as I only use the 40 with my knives. But I will agree with Gunmike on the UF stones. They make a noticeable difference compared to the Fine. Add a good charged leather strop to finish it off and you will be whittling hair with your edges...on the 40 deg setting.

I have only one s30v user and I sharpen primary bevel at 30 degrees with micro edge at 40. Also I do not use UF rods with S30V. for some reasons it work for me better. I used to put only 30 degrees and used UF rods, but with my uses adding 40 microbevel is keeping edge sharp much longer and cuts better without UF. But I use UF on VG10 all the time.
