Sharps 1863 question

If you're not careful, you learn something new once in a while. I never researched the A-Square and assumed that they made the action from scratch.

I wonder if the milsurp crowd knows this. They are always complaining about the military bolt action rifles that are lost due to people turning them into sporters. A nice 1917 goes for $550 to $600 and up these days.
$550-600 is certainly better than the $2500+ you will pay for a Dakota safari action and probably even more for a custom double square bridge magnum Mauser style action!!!!!

BTW......Pedersoli is now making a shorter barreled "hunter" version of the Gibbs percussion target rifle. I has a 28 inch barrel instead of the normal 33-35 incher and "ghost ring" rear sight in place of the Creedmoor and a modern ramp front in placeofthe hooded globe.. The REALLY fun part is that it is a .72 caliber (12 bore MOL)!!!!!!! It has a 1 in 75 twist, so it is set up for 500 gr roundball, but I have seen posts by one guy who had a custom mold made for his Perdersoli double to cast short fat bullets in the 750gr range that still work very well with the slow twist rifling. It won'thave the range of the .451 target rifle, but I suspect it hits hard on both ends!!!
