Sharpshooter Sheath Systems Baldric Rig Review

I carry my beat up Buck 185 that way, sometimes under a vest. Doesn't take long to forget it's there, even with a heavier knife.

I really like the Sharpshooter Baldric Rig, but I'm not a fan of leather. If he would make a nylon version (maybe 1.5 inch or 2 inch flat nylon webbing for the shoulder portion) of that it would be less expensive, easier to make, lighter, faster drying and less prone to rot. Consider putting PALS attachments on the straps and you could add whatever pouches you want allowing you to carry additonal survival (or whatever you want) items. You could make a version with the sheath attachment point as a PALS area, allowing you the versatility of adding whatever MOLLE pouches or MOLLE sheath you want there, making it super versatile (I've considered making something like that before, but Maxpedition made something kinda similar without me having to do the work...again I'm reinventing the wheel). You could make it in a variety of colors (the basics would sell well: black, OD, coyote brown, ranger green, then you could do specialty patterns such as Multi-cam, ACU, MARPAT, etc. and sell a ton of them!) I would buy a nylon system in a heart beat, and I bet others would be interested also.

+1 on the nylon...

Or you can just use a wide leather belt.

Kage,

The only problem I can see with using nylon is, typically, the 'original' product design by most makers of these types of products (belts, slings, holsters, etc.) is usually top quality...then, someone comes along and makes a cheaper, lower quality product - the next guy does the same, and so on, until you end up with the POS stuff sold in fluffy 'tactical' catalogs...

So, a handmade, hand crafted, American made product, even if made from more 'traditional' products such as leather gets my vote hands down every time...not that nylon isn't good btw, to me it's just a matter of quality control. Nice post though, and I'm not trying to take away from it - just throwing in a personal opinion and my two-cents worth

Melvin-Purvis,

Yeah, unfortunately we've all seen that happen all too often. I'm not warranting having it made offshore, but having someone here in the States make a nylon system like the one I described in my earlier post. I don't think that Sharpshooter deals in nylon, but there are some great cottage industry nylon gear makers out there that could probably make up something even better than what I envision.

Too bad I don't know how to sew, but it's on my skills-to-know list. I have a lot of things I would like to have made, but don't have the money to have them all custom made. I guess I need to move sewing up my list!

The Baldric is a classic way of carrying a large cutting tool.

I’m surprised we don’t see this type of system employed more often.

I know Reid (Sharpshooter) has been working on this rig for quite a while, and with Bark River releasing their KSF Machete, Glen Eagle Axe, as well as the long awaited Golok, the time was right to put this rig on the market.

This set-up allows the user to easily carry a large field tool along with a smaller blade (or two) and some additional gear.

I think the key part of Reid’s system is the well designed mounting piece that allows for secure carry of both large and small blades while keeping the items from shifting.

The curved deerskin lined shoulder pad is another nice touch, as is the adjustability built into the strap system.

I’ve placed my order, and can’t wait to test this system in the field.

this would probably work well for large frame handguns as well. A Blackhawk and and blade on the strap would be a nice rig to have handy in the Ranger while working at the ranch. Could be a very versatile piece of equipment.
