Shaving your beard with a knife?

I dont' know if it has been mentioned yet but have you thought about an INOX Opinel? Otherwise, I'd go for the CRKT...just watch out for that needle sharp point!

Hah LOL sorry for the confusion dude. We have a quirky brand of craic/pisstaking where I hang out which I keep forgetting does not go over anywhere else. (See Goloks recent thread on madness and me occasionaly drifting from society's moorings)

I meant to express what a bold experiment this was and am very keen to find out how succesfull you where. I actually find that hair popping sharp on my arms or legs is not the same thing when it comes to my facial hair, which is much tougher. But a straight blade - even a SAK, makes the best shaver.

Are you doing this to test your edges? If so do it dry. Also no need to shave your whole face.

I suggest you try a carbon steel Opinel. The blade geometry is good, it WILL get an outstanding edge and should do a very good job.

I figured out what you were doing.;)

Well...
I did it last night.
I shaved all but my goatee with my CRKT Warncliffe Mirage.
It worked OK. Just OK. Wasn't a very close shave (especially on my rough neck) but it wasn't as irritating as a disposable razor.

I do not recommend the Warncliffe. The point was a nuisance. I didn't cut myself once (but it wasn't for lack of trying:) ) but next time I'd definately use something with a clip point.

Also, handle ergonomics makes a difference. Those slippery, flat, squareish handles didn't quite cut it. A rounder rubbery or checkered handle (like a Cold Steel Twistmaster or Gerber Gator) would have been better.

It DID (as someone else suggested) do a good job cleaning up around the edges of my goatee.
Also, the bar of soap did NOT work very well at all. I had to switch to a thin layer of shaving cream. Maybe that Gilette shaving gel would work well? You definately need something slippery.

Over all, I was disappointed at how it went. I'd do it again but be better prepared with some shaving gel and a clip-point blade with a more comfortable handle.

Sharpness didn't seem to be an issue. I'm doing fine in the stropping department.

Well, THAT was pretty anticlimactic.

Until my next experiment...

I once talked my wife into letting me shave her bikini-line with my Gerber Covert, and I nicked her, and it took a while before I was allowed to approach her, even un-armed.....
