Shawn McIntyre Surgery--- Photo added-Good advice!

I, too, have known Shawn since we were little, although have been out of touch for many years. Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!

G'day Everyone

First i would just like to say thank you to one and all for your thoughts and well wishes it has been great to read them. It is a bit like get well cards from all over the world!

Well it is one week post surgery today. Things are looking good at this point although i must admit this is not going to be a miracle cure. The good news is everything moves and i am walking well, no heavy duty pain meds for the last 4 days and i can make myself a cup of tea, so not bad. The downside is i am weak as a kitten. I am pretty much confined to a rotation of chair, short walk, lie down, repeat for about six weeks until i can start rehab. The doc says i can do light duty work, but lets face it in Bladesmithing that means a 4.5" angle grinder instead of a 9" and that ain't happening for a while. But hey, once I catch up on a bit of rest I will be able to use the time to research all the cool things i can make in the future.

Thanks again guys, when sitting at the computer gets a bit more comfy I will be chiming in on things. So type soon.

Hey campguy00 who are you mate? Do we know one another from school?

Cheers
Shawn McIntyre

It's definitely been a long time, but our folks were friends and we used to do quite a bit of dirt bike riding together both behind one of your folks houses and in the sand underneath one of the bridges that crossed the Delaware. I know my mom is still in touch with your dad and she said she even bumped into you one time you were home visiting, and is how I learned of your knife making. Since then, I've been fortunate enough to pick up one of your Model 23s from here, and it's one of the nicest I own!

Glad to hear that your surgery went well! Shoot me an email if you get the chance...

G'day Guys

Thanks again for all the get well wish's, it's really nice to hear. Feeling a bit better today, still feel like someone had a pretty good go with a big stick but hey that's life.

Good to hear from you Matt. Your mom just rang my Dad to see how I was going. Amazing place the internet. i remember the Pine Barrens in NJ, great riding, i wonder if you can still go in? That must be 30 years ago now. Glad you like the 23. Keep in touch and please say hi to your mom fro me.

Hey Kyle, how you feeling mate, I understand you had to cancel your Taiwan trip, that is miserable. The knives looked stunning that you had ready to go. hope things are well and the Doc's can get it sorted for you.

Now a health warning from my Neurosurgeon I think i should share. When he looked at my MRI's one of his first questions was wether or not I smoked. i said no and it was dropped. i asked at the next appointment why he had asked. He said smoking inhibits bone growth and strength. Chiefly through Nicotine and carbon monoxide. Well that pulled me up pretty quickly. Carbon monoxide will, as we know, will bond to haemoglobin instead of oxygen and kill us quickly. Well guess what, it will also bond into bone instead of oxygen and break you down slowly. I don't thing CO caused my spinal injury, but I will bet it didn't help. So for everyone who has a forge, please make sure you get as much air as is possible and then some more. I know old time smiths forged their whole lives, but they were not using LPG in garages. I just thought i should pass it on.

Cheers
Shawn
