SHBM - getting to know the big girl (pic heavy)

I've read somewhere that those swedged bad boys hold an edge longer.... Also.... What other differences, and what's different about the heat treat?

I think Jerry was experimenting a lot with Rc's back then(or so it appeared). The HT process wasn't different(as far as I know), the final Rc was. Lil fo had two with much higher Rc's than normal, those were the Hood SHBM's. He posted a really good thread on those knives and their history. The 300's were higher than normal as well. But we r way off topic. OP got an awesome blade there. I am jealous:D

All, feel free to digress! This discussion is fascinating!

In some ways I wish it was in mint condition.... But then I realise I wouldn't be able to play if it were.

Dicko, show me the sheath and what is missing. I might have a spare piece for it. If I have it, I can just ship it to you.

That is a beauty and you are a very fortunate man to have one. A genuine piece of Busse Combat history. (Just got a BIG ASHBM myself. A beast.) Google "badmojo.net" and, in Galleries II, click on 'Battle Mistress' for lots of pics and a bit of history at the bottom of the gallery.

Thanks Pete!

Some eye candy to be had right here folks!

hows your hand mr. gravelface?

Gleason: im told its a 1/300. smooth coat. minty as mouthwash. i was told that it had been sheathed maybe twice. otherwise safe queen. i didnt have the heart to beat on the 15' round oak logs i was working on today. the ASHBM had a turn, but not this beaut. shame. im not a fan of safe queens.

haha

It's bundled up tight. Supposedly only 4 stitches yet my hand from my knuckles to half of my forearm has to be covered for 2 weeks!!?

"2 weeks" or two weeks...? when i had sliced my meaty thumb muscle almost all the way through, they did the same. gotta make sure NOTHING moves. its a pain, but it seems par for the course

eta: did they ever make a fat skeleton key?

yeah, yours is a standard run of the mill 1/300, like mine:D Seriously though, the majority of the 1/300's were this exact blade/handle combo. Looks minty. With the exception of handles, the entire 1/300 run is exactly the same blade shape and very close in thickness. most of mine were between 0.259 and 0.269" thick. My 1/6 was my thinnest blade at 0.245"
