which one do you guys like the best???

i personally got into the game a little late...i love SHBM's but they are too expensive for me....maybe i will save up and get myself one for christmas....

i think that almost everyone here likes the SHBM.....there is still a high demand, and people seem to snatch them up on the exchange forum regardless of price....

however, i just love the FBM.....the LE is my favorite and then comes the FFBM.....the CG comes in third place, only because i don't care for the CBT....but i plan on getting a CG in the near future just so i have all 3 versions...

i think that in terms of asthetics, the SHBM edges out the FBM, but only by a slight margin....the SHBM has an understated beauty about it, while the FBM boldly displays its many curves.....

there are also similarities between the SHBM's and the FBM's......biggest likeness is the broad upswept blade....the FBM has the scallops on the spine, while the SHBM has none, but similarities do exist in the blade profiles....also they both have points that are in line with the handles.....

now we come to the BM-E....i just don't like how it looks.....the palm swells in the handles are too fat, i don't like the drop point blade, the pomel doesn't look right and the blade is 1/2" shorter than a SHBM or a FBM....

it might've chopped great because of the E handle, but it just didn't look right....

in the future, i think that the FBM series will be considered coveted classics like the SHBM....however, i have my doubts about the BM-E....

or am i completely off????

well either way, please vote in the poll, which model do you like best??? and you can vote for more than one....

I voted FBM for the all-out chopper. FBM SE has been my favorite by far.

However, for a more packable blade that'll do a lot of duties, it's hard to beat the SHBM.

+1... agreed on the fusion over straight for power, and vise versa for the SHBM being more compact and lighter carry.

That's why I voted for I like them both. :D

On the Fusion battle mistress, there are actually 2 the normal FBM with the grooves in the blade and the FFBM that is heavier with no cuts. I like the FBM a little better than the FFBM due to a little easier to swing and carry. (although the LE version in FFBM is sweet!)

BM-E ...light and swift for me! I can swing it all day long without hand changes or doubling up on the chop. Just perfect !

New...one of the big reasons the SHBM is so coveted is because aside from the fact that they are a great design, there were MUCH fewer of them made than there have been of the FBM and all it's ilk. Because of that reason, I would venture to say the FBMs will never be AS highly regarded as the SHBMs. I definitely think the FBMLEs will cause people to break their porcelain piggies a few years from now, but there are a much smaller number of the SHBMs and you can bet the Hogs are guarding them like fat dragons atop their treasures.

FBM...........

Jerry continually improves his designs.

The older designs are very desirable, but the newer ones have improved functionality.

You didn't list the Basic 9. :D Although it's not a true Mistress, it's extemely similar to the SHBM except it has the Res-C handle which I find to be the most comfortable of all my Busses. Out of all the BM's, I'd pick the B9, CGFBM, FFBM, BM-E, SHBM in that order. That's just me though.

if you had included the basic 9 - I would have voted for it. for me it thromps the other 3 for overall perfection.

I've always viewed the bm-e is a bad compromise, mostly in the handle. the super tall full thickness handle brings the weight back making it very neutral, and for my hands very uncomfortable. it wasn't a chopper, and it was too heavy to be used like a smaller knife.

When comparing the shbm to the fbm, I always looked at the shbm as more of a long knife that did well at chopping, where as the fbm is all chopper.

the basic 9 is just perfect. light weight, but the hidden full tang handle pushed the weight forward away from the hand making it feel like a chopper, yet it was noticably smaller and easier to handle then the other 3. it was the compromise of weight and size that the bm-e should have been.

Couldn't agree more. Big knife in a light package. The standard CGFBM had become my favorite chopper until I finally scored my B9. Since getting it, it hasn't had any competition from my other FBMs. Easily my favorite chopper, and one that I wouldn't mind carrying all day due to the lightweight. I'd love to see Jerry re-release them, or something similar.

I def go with the BM-E...although that could change if I got my hands on a FBM and did some chopping with it. The BM-E totally outchopped the SHBM back when PapaThud and I tested them. I agree that the BM-E looks wrong though...no one ever liked the way the E-models looked...I spent sooooo much time explaing the asymetrical grind and the curved handle.

I didn't do any direct comparisons with the Basic #9; but I always found the Res-C handles to be much gentler with my hands for extended chopping than the SH or the E-handle; so over the course of a long-term test I would tend to agree with Canary.

I like'em all.

The Fusions for heavy duty long term chopping

The Ergo for a light and swift Battle Mistress. It gives the most blade length to handle ratio.

SHBM is the tweener and the best all arounder. I'll have to go and beat Pbubsy's 1/300 some more to confirm this :D

This thread needs a visual.

I like my EU-17 Magnum pretty well.

It's light weight because it's an Ergo variant but in my opinion the handle is the most comfortable with the Fusion handle running a close second.

I love my FBM SE but my favorite is an FFBM that I have.

The Ergo out chopped the SHMB over time because the Ergo could be swung more comfortably for longer periods of time,

The SHBM out chopped the Ergo on a per chop basis, but unless you are very strong with a lot of endurance, the Ergo is just easier to use for an hour or more.

All that said, I found a particular One of Three Hundred SHBM that fits my hand well enough, feels good enough in my hand that it is my first choice for my Big Beater Knife.

I have no experience with the FBM, I have not yet felt one that I was willing to pay for.

I still think that it will happen one day.

The Basic #9 is a fast knife for a Busse, a real chopping machine as well.

I do not care for how the #9 throws though and am afraid of killing the handle doing so.

The ZTBM seems like a good compromise, just to few for many to get used.

I like the SHBM 1-300 user I have but the knife that is grossly under rated is the CG FBM. I was thinking about sending one back to the shop to have the spine ground flat like what PorkDucci did to his FFBM. That would make it even lighter and better for dealing with a baton.

.

Although they are a bit out of my price range, I love the SHBMs.
I'd be happy with a CGFBM though:D
I'm not a huge ergo fan, but I have a soft spot for ZTBMs

i see a few people who mentioned the basic 9......

would a mod be kind enough to add the Basic 9 to the poll??? thanks......
