She Bangs...She Bangs

Mark, do you have that sucker bolted down??? Don't forget the video. :D

I.G. i figured it would be jumping all over the place but it's surprizingly smooth. I used a plumb-bob to get all my alignment points figured out. I must have gotten lucky :)

Looking forward to it Larry. I think we'll be too busy drifting hawks to do to much power hammerin' . We'd better get as much done as soon as you get here. I'm not going to be much good after Deb's meal

I like thumper Gib. Guess I should smash a bottle of something on it.

WS
Wayne!!! I was just using the spatula that you gave me. This is the best one I ever had. Thanks again Bro!! :D

That looks great Mark....now about my consulting fee ;)
Seriously, nice job and I'm impressed with how fast it came out. Would have taken me a month and it probably wouldn't work at the end :D

Thanks for letting me bounce stuff off you Matt. It helps to have two confused inputs to solve a problem :)

Cool I.G. I have a W.S.T.S (Wayne Surbier Turbo Spatula) myself. We should start a club :)

I thought about smashing something with it. But it's to heavy to drag outside. And I wouldn't want to mess up the pristine shop.

Hell with the shop I'd be usin that bad boy as a food processor! ;)
You be just like the comedian that smacks the melons and fruits (Higgy to) with the bigass mallet. :D

Yeah,! Mark. Nice job my friend. Came together pretty nice :D Like to see how it works for you.

This thread has rekindled my interest in making a JYH... ESPECIALLY after I went to check out the Big Blu's again... $4500!!! Nice hammers, but man that's a heap-o-cash. You could make one SERIOUS junk yard hammer for half that. This leads me to shop around my hoard of junk. I come up with a couple Dayton 5:1 ratio gearboxes, max 2hp input, 1750 rpm max, with like 345 rpm output. That should do okay with a DC motor setup, huh? I have a huge flywheel too. I could marry the flywheel to the gearbox, and see what happens I suppose.

Mark, do you set yours to-running and just start wailing away at a billet, or do you have a foot-switch or something?

I've got a foot switch for it. Havent hooked it up yet. I think I'm going to end up with using a couple of pulleys and a frequency drive setup for speed control 87 BPM is just not fast enough to sling the hammer down fast enough to make use of the weight. Might be able to use a sewing machine foot pedal for the input to the frequency drive.

I also need to put a return spring in the system to keep the head at top when it stops. No fun trying to just poke it in on the upswing :). It will probably end up being a completely differant machine before it's finished.

Nice hammer Mark, can't wait to hear more about how she works. Time to make a damascus Mr. Toasty. :D
