She loved my kukri

I've done a lot of lurking here, had a lot to learn, and now it's time to contribute.

You guys will be just about the only ones to appreciate an incident that occurred when I met up with friend (female and beautiful) I hadn't seen in a long time. I get a bit excited about knives and don't know many people in real life that feel the same. So when the conversation turns to camping and she talked about wielding a machete for her first time with a gleam in her eye, I realized she was more than a friend, more along the line of an angel. How could I resist showing her the BAS that was in my hiking pack? It put more of a gleam in her eye than the machete conversation, she even liked the heft of a real blade, and I promised to bring it on the 3 day river rafting trip we were about to start.

On the second day after breakfast she took her first swings with it, which are what the two pictures are of...

Can there be a better woman than one that likes kukris? (well, there's a lot more to her, but this Kukri appreciation is a rare trait)

Anyone else been struck by cupid's arrow when a woman swung your kuk?

:D <--me after she praised the kuk and said she wanted one

Thanks for the welcome, though after spending so much time lurking I feel like part of the HI family.

She is an amazing find, camping for 3 days w/o bathing and not a complaint (except that we didn't have more t-bone steak that first night; how was I to know that 1.25 lbs each was insufficient :-) and now that I've found someone so rare I'm working on the "catching" part. There may be a kuk heading her way soon, let's call it bait.

In retrospect I think the BAS is a good size for her, useful for hacking but not overwhelming. Hmm, it would be convenient to polish up that blade and make it a beautiful gift for her, and then I can justify acquiring a bigger one for myself. Perfect solution.

Make sure I get some warning! I will have to lose some weight, get fit, dye what hair I have left, find some good Aussie camping spots and Ah yes buy some 2lb T Bones OK I am ready mentally at least! Rod

Welcome to the cantina del khuks. It's great when your better half shares interests with you. I loved it when my wife looked at the new khuk that just came in the mail and said, "I can see why you like it." So far both my wife and my daughter have one. They seem to be more immune to HIKV at this time than I am. :D

Welcome. I'm told it's not the size of the khuk, its how ya use it!;)
Looks like she's striking with the tip instead of the sweet spot in that second pic.

Ferrous, you're right. I nearly included in my first text that I'd descibed the sweet spot to her, and that the picture shows her hitting with the tip, but didn't. I'll have to get her out wacking the wood again and work on her swing.

At least I knew how to use the kukri, and it may not be the size, but I'm looking foward to upgrading (A WWII 18 or AK 18 sounds appealing, I'll try to catch a good blem when I'm back at college and idle, able to snatch them up in the first 60 sec).

Sweet spot be damned, she seems like someone worth knowing!:D
Good fortune to both of you.
Regards,
Greg

Kukris make great gifts at Christmas, for birthdays, ect. Just understand, when she starts talking about "our" kukris, a decision has been made and you no longer have a choice.

Did they get some kind of shot??

Welcome to the cantina 54. Hope you have the best of luck. Good relations come when common interests are shared.;)

Phaedrus, welcome.

She definitely sounds like a lady to be investing some time and effort in. As you have noticed, most people tend you give you a wide berth when you mention that you like big knives. (I won't mention that they did that to me even beforehand).

How does she like her steak, BTW?

Welcome and congratulations.

The way I see it you have 3 options: (1, 2A, 2B)

1 - sometimes folks really latch onto the first knife they get, and don't want it "replaced" - because part of the reason they like it so much is because of the "giver"...;) In this case, just let her keep the BAS.

2 - If she has a more specific taste (or likes upgrading, etc.), I'd say try her out on a few others (gives you a reason to "expand your collection":D).

2A - If the BAS is a nice size, try a 14" New Model. These are about as good as it gets for a compromise between chopping ability, pack-ability, and sheer beauty.

2B - If she has outgrown the BAS already, go for a 17" M43. Again, a good overall compromise and a easy-to-like khukuri.

If she outgrows that, you've got yourself quite a catch, mate. :D

Best of luck.

Dan

How does she like her steak done?

Who said anything about cooking, as long as it isn't mooing that moment. She goes to restraunts and asks for as rare as possible.

more trip pics

She loves animals as much as I do, especially w/ a pepperkorn sauce seared to perfection.

I second what Roadrunner says. Got to be a whole bunch of goodness in a gal that likes a khuk. Hope things work out well for you.:) :)
