I made this sheath to go with this knife I made my girlfriends father back at Christmas, the knife was the first actual knife I made using my grinder. Comments and critique much appreciated!

You have skills! My only critique is to work on your leather edges. I have a good tutorial on finishing leather edges. PM me if you want me to email it to you.

Looks great. The knife too. Did you use a welt in that sheath? Looks kinda thin along the stitched edge. Your choice of strap retention is interesting.

The tooling looks great, the stitching looks good! The edges need a little more work, and I'm not sure about the strap. I would say excellent for your second.

Thanks for the comments guys, Jack I think I pm'd you.. or it's just on your page there I wasn't sure how to go about that, thanks for offering the tutorial!. Marc, there is yes, hard to tell I guess in the pictures but there is a layer in between. I really don't like the strap set up myself.. I made that hook this morning, the knife can still be taken out without even unhooking it. But, know I know! haha I will definatly work harder at those edges. Thanks again.

I would suggest getting a creaser and creasing each edge that is not sewn. Edge your single layers with a number two edger and the welted edge with a number four. Rub all edges with a piece of denim or canvas with paraffin or beeswax on it. Gum tragacanth is better but harder to find. I like the brass hook you made pretty darn cool. Work on your swivel knife work, getting it a little more circular. Practice on some scrap. Couple spots on your scroll it gets angular. But considering it's your second pretty darn good! Your backgrounding is darn good too on your tooling. Might think on using a smaller awl blade if you used an awl in your sewing. Same if you used a drill, go smaller. Spacing is good but the holes are larger than they need to be. Might think on a little lighter thread too. Works pretty good on the welted edge but is kind of overpowering on the belt loop. Just some ideas. You are doing excellent work, just refine.

I think the strap won't hold the knife in because you have it going the wrong way. Typically it comes across the bottom of the guard. Your knife doesn't have a guard so I'm not sure that would be all that effective either. You will just have to rely on a snug fit. Very nice effort. I'd be proud of that.
