Sheath and leather sub-forum?

well....I would hate to be told to take my sheath questions to a different forum, when I really want to get the views and ideas of many of the posters of this forum....

Other forums find this useful, why not here?

Good question Sandy! I don't know what's up here? Needs someone to get it started eh? (hint)

Say, I guess you'll be at Blade dressed in your "Sandy" attire won't you? I probably can't go, but if I do I'll be sure to hunt you up.

It seems to me that the only time you should split one forum into more than one forum, is when you've got TOO MUCH volume, ie too many posts.

But here in Shop Talk, I don't think we really have a problem where we've got so many posts about sheaths and leather crowding up the place that we can't read about making knives. There just aren't an overwhelming number of leather threads.

So if you split off a leather sub-forum, you'd hardly have anybody there, which would mean very few posts. And when you have very few posts, soon people think of it as an uninteresting forum, and they quit checking it. If nobody's checking and reading, even FEWER people post, and soon it just outright dies.

But nobody can post about leather in Shop Talk, then, because it's the "wrong forum". Nobody talks leather in the leather forum, nobody talks leather in the Shop Talk forum... soon nobody talks leather.

Sure, I'm exaggerating how bad it would be in order to make a point. It wouldn't be the end of the world if it happened, but I think it's definitely something that shouldn't happen.

Like Mike said. If there gets to be too much leather talk then start another forum. Keep what there is here....till then.

HI Sandy
good to see you , long time..I hope all is well with you Friend.
hey if the powers that be don't sub it, shoot me a link to what you'd like and i'll put it in the sticky I have above..

I think a sticky of some of Sandy's info would be great. Everytime i go to make a sheath i go looking for his info, cause without re-reading it i always forget something and catch on to something else everytime.

Sandy are you going to be giving any demos at Trackrock this weekend? I am actually hoping to get there before lunch this time. :D

Hello Sandy hope you are doing ok. It looks like you have alot of friends out here. Have a great day and be safe. -------------------

Well, it looks as the powers that be do not desire to make it simple to separate the questions on sheaths from the knives! Whenever I go into shop talk to find info on sheaths I always have to scroll through a dozen pages, sometimes with success, sometimes without. I feel that this info being easier to locate would be of help to knifemakers and leather workers alike. As far as I can recollect, every knife (other than folders) needs a sheath, right? And, of course, all knifemakers are proficient in sheathmaking so do not need any info from a sub-forum. The thousands of postings on other forums seem to show otherwise. I believe if this was put to a poll you would feel differently about its desirability. Try it, what have you to lose?
