Might try a fixed blade instead of a folding.

Only feasible option for when working would be a clip on sheath in the lower side pocket of my carpenter pants, the smaller of the two.

Anyone ever use this pocket or know of a sheath that would work.

Thinking of esee candiru to start.

You might check out Cold Steel’s Peace Maker
This is kind of a boot knife sort of clip on sheath that I like fine.
You may have to mod the opening of the sheeth to make your knife fit in. Or just use the Peace Maker knife as is; it’s a pretty decent knife considering the price. The handle is robust and grippy. It might look light and plasticy but it is not that way. Good and solid.

Bought the sheath with the Peace Maker to use with my Cold Steel 3V Pendleton Hunter (I thinned the blade). I carry the combo just in my pocket or clipped to the top of my pants or belt.

I like it.

Sorry I don't have any carpenter pants etc. or I would try putting it in there. Maybe find a store near you with the Peace Maker and try it in the store.

I sometimes stick a BK-24 in the side pocket of my carpenter pants. The stock sheath fits well enough, though I wouldn't want to start turning cartwheels with it in. I made a quickie "taco" sheath for it that was sized to the width of that pocket and it retains great. The Candiru will probably work good too. I have tried bigger knives in that pocket, like a Condor Nessmuk, but it gives me an annoying slap on the leg as I walk.

I love the side pocket of my carpenters for just that purpose. I use slip sheaths for my traditionall folders, and have carried my Izula (and Candiru) that way, as well. Both options are completely covered by the length of the pocket. I've never used a clip-on sheath; I worry the clip would snag, and I'd lose the knife. Any smooth-surfaced sheath would be more of a risk; a rough-out finish would tend to grab the fabric of the pants.
