We have lots of brown PVC for some reason. It seems that the ones with smaller diameters come in white, as you go up it gets darker. I cannot tell you if it is a "convention", it's just what I see in stores and around the house. In fact - I never gave it a 2nd thought, until now. So yeah - seems like an Euro thing.
