used to be a math teacher, some pre algebra stuff. and i have a tendency to count stuff, words, cars, whatever. my secret shame

perhaps overkill, but pythagorean theorem would work for any dimensions, just showing off my little used math skills.

Builders/carpenters use proportional variations all the time to check square.

3, 4, 5 or 6, 8, 10 or 12, 16, 20. Just nice even numbers you can eyeball on a tape measure without fooling with fractions.

By the way, 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions.

yeah i knew that but since i am not very handy and dont build stuff, i have only book knowledge to go by.

pythagorean triples oh my! now if only I had known that regular people use them so that I might have been able to convince my students to take them seriously. :yawn:
