Sheath Swivel?

I have a customer requesting a sheath that swivels on his belt. I could probably get away with a large rivet and a spacer between the belt loop and sheath, but thought I would ask you guys if you've ever encountered a commercially avialable one. Odd, but hey, never hurts to ask.:) Thanks for your input.

Are you making a typical scandinavian sheath where the sheath covers at least half of the handle ? If so a flexible piece of leather or braid is all that is needed. If not a snap will work well as a swivel.

Western Cutlery used a swivel on their W49 bowies. Jack Crain also uses a swivel on his Life SUpport System knives. Both sheaths have a large "D" ring sewn to the sheath and then the belt loop is sewn to the top part of the D ring.

Hope this helps.

Hey Clint, are you refering to something like the one's on a dog leash? If so, Tandy has them. I think even Revy or Home as well. Or next time you are in the animal husbandry section of your local UFA, check there. Glad I could help out:p

Check a marine supply (boats, not jarheads!) store if you have one nearby. They have the oddest collection of all kinds of things like that. Most are available in either stainless or brass.

I once made a swivel for a belt fishing knife.
I put the bottom half of a press studd on each side of the sheath and the top half on the studds on a u shaped leather. It made the sheath so that you could just have a pouch with 2 studds and no belt loop or the attacched belt loop would allow the knife to swivel and hange down
if you sat down in a boat etc.

It was several years ago and I don't have a picture. It was just to give you an Idea to work on.

Thanks for your input, gentlmen. The typical swivel that most you are refering to isn't what I had in mind. My powers of description suck, so I'll make this set up best I can, then post some pics. This won't be a sheath hanging by a swivel to drift around, but one that is secured and able to rotate back and forth. Told you I suck at describing things!:D I'll be back with a pic in a week or so.

Clint, they have made holsters for police with swivels that could lock. LOcked in the normal vertical position ,then unlocked to swivel when you sit in the cruiser.

Thats the kind I'm looking for, mete! Doesn't have to lock, but same idea. Knew I'd seen something like that somewhere, but couldn't remember what it was used on.
