Sheath.

hmm does anyone know if a purse could be turned into a sheath, like is the average leather purse thick enough? my mom has like 20 laying around here, she probably wouldnt mind if i used one :P.

edit: acording to links found by googling it can :D so, i may attempt that :)

That's the crappiest sheath on the line along the 11(use same sheath) and the 2.

Skystorm has some sheaths in the 30 bucks area. For the 14.

You can also make your own leather sheath, get a old pair of Timberland Yellow boots use the 14 to cut it then sew it yourself. Will look neat.

well i dont exactly want to pay nearly the price of the knife for a sheath :P

lol... many of us pay twice as much for the sheath as we did for the knife. :)

Try a high quality sheath some time and it will all make sense.

Sagewood or Skystorm do amazing leather sheaths - and for about half the price of a Hedgehog sheath.

Godspeed or azwelke to excellent kydex sheaths. I have azwelke for my BK9 and one of my BK2s.... Godspeed is providing the sheath for my new ESEE 6 group buy blade and I think I'm going to have him do one for either my BK7 and/or ESEE 4.

well i found a old leather belt, unwound it, and straightening a stip now, will file down the inside a bit, and glue it in. hope it works.
i actually like the stock sheath other than the dulling problem, good size and i like the abundance of holes. :P

TGW, just cut you a piece of paracord, about 3" in length, slip it in the sheath, edge side, and use a nail, or something small enough to fit all the way to the bottom, press it in place, no need to glue it.

This will fix your issue, quickly and cheaply, and allow you use the sheath that you like.

Plus, it adds more retention to the whole kit.

Yeah, leather will work, but we have a much, much, much larger problem here. NO PARACORD!!!!

WTH!?!?!?!

No paracord is like saying, I have no oxygen. I have no water. I have no food. I have nothing!!!!!! I am without the essentials of life and will DIE shortly!!!!!

:D

Seriously, buy you some paracord.

haha will do, as soon as i find where i can buy it :P
should hardware stores have it?

Good ones should.

Don't forget the powerful google, though. There are tons of knline shops that, at this very moment, would love to package you up some and send it out, poste haste.

Its just good to have with you always.

Just take a file/screwdriver/hacksaw blade/extremely long fingernail and work the area that is dulling the blade. Not much effort there will reduce a lot if not all of your problems. Does the outline of the sheath look like a tanto blade or the blade on your BK14? If it looks like a tanto shaped blade, that is old stock. If not, it is newer stuff, but that doesn't make a lot of difference. You might end up with some rattle after you get the dulling issue taken care of. If you run into that Bladite suggested way back when to use a half of one of those foam earplugs jammed down in there on the spine side to stop the rattle, and it works. Going on a year and a half now rattle free.

If you bought your 14 I believe it came with Paracord..... If you need a good price on it shoot me an email, buy yourself a 1000' spool, I doubt any of the people here think that's enough, and according to Moose it's only a 1000' of oxygen, 1000' of water, and a 1000' of food, so it can't be nearly enough, but it could get you off to a good start. Or if you don't want to spend that much, buy 100'.

+1 on buying it by the spool... I used to just buy 100' at a time... then a friend in the Army requisitioned some for an event... only used about 50' and gave me the spool... that was awesome and I've been using the spools ever since. Much more efficient... both in use and cost.

well i completely give up on the stock sheath :P.
also i believe the cord that came with the knife is just nylon cord or somthing, atleast thats what i hear.
anyways now to decide on trying to make my own leather sheath or just buying a kydex one...

Go to knife kits dot com, and get you a kydex sheath kit. Should be reasonable. Then, you can make your own sheath from kydex, have some fun, and get the opportunity and material to make a couple of tries.

Its what I did, a looooooooong time ago.

well i dont have the tools for that. but leather tools can be improvised fairly easily as leather is a somewhat soft material.

Don't sweat it. No matter what knife you bought, the sheath would not have been "up to par", IMHO anyways. Not even ESSE or a custom knife have sheaths that i like. Many a knife would never be sold if they had a good custom sheath--as the initial price would keep many from buying it. To each their own, but i like VERY specific details in my sheaths. There more than a few leather & kydex makers on here that do AWESOME work.

Things in a sheath that are important to me (for a user knife)

Able to be drawn with one hand & done so quietly if need be. Thumb rests/ramp in kydex help to do this.
Able to be re-sheathed with one hand with an audible "click", so i KNOW it is secured without looking.
Large drain hole, so it don't get plugged all the time with debris, yet can be cleaned if it does.
Drop leg swivel with HD hardware & an wide elastic leg strap w/q-release buckle, for all day comfort while working/hiking/entering & exiting vehicles/atvs/utvs/horses, etc...
The ability to add a second smaller knife to the first sheath & be able to mount it in multiple positions.

Note: Kydex can & will break or crack. More so in cold weather. So can the hardware. When clearing a shooting lane during pre-hunting season once, i was heading back to my truck & found a knife on the ground still in it's sheath. It was mine. While pushing through thick brush hard while walking backwards, it actually broke all of the aluminum "Chicago screw" nuts that were holding the small sheath to the BK9. Glad i found it. Went to hardware store & bought new bolts & locknuts.
