I want to get a machete like a Tramontina, or an Ontario but they don't come with sheaths. What do you guys do about this? Custom sheath makers charge by the inch, I'm not gonna pay 60-90 bucks to sheath my $10 machete.

Any ideas? Anyone know where I can get a cheaper leather sheath kit, or kydex, whichever is cheaper.

That 10 dollar machete could be worth a thousand bucks ..

:)

use some pvc, soften it up with some heat them press it to the shape of your machete. thats what i do, it works great.

Ok. So the duct tape one I have won't do for tomm. I needed an upgrade and [color:red]QUICK.[/color]

The boxboard-and-duct-tape sheath I made for my 16" Ontario is much prettier than yours! :p

OK... Not by much.

Well... maybe not at all.

Nevermind.

Thanks for the tips on the plastic DIY project!

Stay sharp,

Kydex isn't that hard to use. you can get 12"x24" sheets for like $15. There are tons of tutorials on how to use it on the net. You can do it!

Agreed... get some kydex and bend it up...

Here is one I made for my 12" Tram...

Thanks man. Great price. Not bad looking either.

I have one of WildMahn's sheaths for my 18" TRAM..the sheath cost me 4 times the amount of the Machete..$5.99 at Smoky store in TN, and the Sheath cost me...$22.00?? or so....It fits very well, and is top notch construction and materials...Overall, for under $30 total..how could you go wrong????

You can get a cheap nylon sheath from alomst any place that you can buy the machete. Sure, it's not nice kydex or leather, but it's functional and inexpensive.

From know on, I am going to refer to Joezilla as "Pic Zilla"...as he always has the pics man.

I bought this 18" machete sheath in Honduras for $3.00 US. The store owner thought I was nuts because I didn't want the machete that came with it for an extra $1.00. I only had carry on and knew I couldn't take the machete with me. Anyhow, I still haven't yet ordered my 18" tramontina which will fit this baby perfectly. Talk about Latin flaire - this thing looks like a peacock :D

So - MOJ - just take a little trip to Central America and find yourself a great sheath. Aside from that, try and contact PICT and he can probably set you up with the Latin deal!

I have a 18" Tram and got an Ontario-knife-company nylon sheath for less than 10 (with shipping) and I like it fine.

Nice idea will work BUT. Please be careful heating PVC I know of a patient that was making things out of it and heating it. He was a crafty guy. The fumes are toxic and will mess you up for life when you inhale them. He is now disabled.
