Sheaths Galore! (Some new ones too...)

I am toying with a pocket sheath for a Fred Perrin fixed blade. It has a widening near the tip so it should stay put inside the pocket, and I made the sheath a bit loose to it will let go of the knife more or less easily.

I am also using this sheath to see if colors will work. Currently the sheath is black, with a violet rose embossed on it. Looks rather pretty. No pics yet, but once it's finished it should be something to see... :)

But still, for a folding Spyderco, due to complex handle shapes, the sheath would have to be horribly lose for the knife to come out and the sheath stay inside... But I'll try some more... :)

Still trying to find that "fine balance" between a sheath that's too tight, and one that's too loose. I did find that wrapping the knife in many layers of something like shrink wrap and jamming it in the sheath for the night will stretch it. I even made the Chinook sheath that was way too tight into a sheath that is now somewhat loose... :)

Now I gotta find a place to buy another Gunting. Can't keep torturing this one any longer: clip on, clip off, clip on, clip off. Need two, one to keep clipped and one clipless, so no switching will be needed. Sooo... Anyone know a good place to get a PE Gunting? (mine is CE):D

Vess, just soak the leather in water, and make sure you wrap the knife so that no water gets in and then you could mold the leather around the knife.
That's how I did my only leather sheath for the frosts mora.

Well, I do all that. But after drying the leather shrinks a bit, and dying and finishing shrinks it even more, I think. So in the end I have an almost waterproofed (can't get it completely wet) and finished sheath too tight for the knife. That's where the "stretching with the knife" comes in, when the sheath is completely finished and can't be re-moulded... :)

But hey, as long as it works. The sheaths do stretch out after a time holding the knife, so eventually they work okay. Just gotta work the knife in and out for a while... :)

Almost finished the colored Perrin pocket sheath. I think I did it all wrong, but it's so pretty! :) Ah, well... I'll post pics when it's done.:D

Vess

Some really nice work! Have you ever tried a horizontal ( or any type) carry sheath for the Lil' Temperance?

No, I never tried anything for Temperance... :(

I'm sure it is possible AND it would look real nice, but I just don't have that knife to work with. So far I only did Spydercos that I own, or the ones people sent to me to make the sheath for.

But if you care to risk sending your Temperance to me, I think I can make a nice sheath for it to your exact specs. Since you're in Ontario too, it is less risky than sending one from the USA...

Email me and we'll talk... :)
