sheaths

One other thing that came to mind this morning (coffee does wonders for the brain) If you dont already have one, a welt is a great way to reduce the chances of cutting the leather body of the sheath and all but eliminates the possibility of making contact with those chicago screws. For those not familiar with the term, a welt is a strip of leather along the inside of the sheath. For stability you could glue one side to the sheath body and leave the other to remain glue free so you retain that ability to open it up.

Thanks!

Great mention. I do use welts. I made one without them, for inside the waistband. a sam browne post to hold it. still kinda thick though.

I like 'em. I might have to start that myself. I'd like to figure a way to do a kydex insert though. At least a partial. Down at the point, at least. I just have this paranoia of the blade going through the sheath and sticking me. I guess not too big a risk if there is a guard on the blade, though.

True that. There is always a worry about the blade straying off or digging deep. But, if you have some sort of stop like the guard or handles your pretty safe. On a pouch sheath where the handle is recessed into the sheath you can make a shelf for the guard, talon hole, or handle to hit to keep it from going deeper. You shouldn't be shoving the knife in really hard anyhow so any decent stop should signal your hand to stop pushing the blade. Some makers do not put any kind of stop in their sheaths so I can understand the concern.

I would be more concerned with a fall, tumble that would drive the blade. not likely, but could happen..... along with a million other things

An old friend of mine said that when you carry something that can hurt you, it CAN hurt you.

Simple but effective. :D

Cant live your life worrying about what could happen, simply enjoy the here and now.
