Sheepfoot blade on stockman knives

A sheepsfoot is my go-to blade on a stockman or any knife that has one. Chances are it's going to get the job done best. It's good for scoring, piercing, and especially opening stuff. I would use the big clip for food or gutting an animal -except I never seem to find myself using a stockman for that, so the clip is my least frequently used blade. Spey would be more useful as a pen, but it gets used for harvesting produce from the garden or anything I need a really sharp blade for. I find a distinct difference between a stout sheepsfoot and a delicate coping or wharncliffe, and I wish more knives today had the sheepsfoot. The wharncliffe types are elegant but I hesitate to use them on any tough materials for fear I mess up the point. No such problem with the sheepsfoot.

I quite concur.

Only a couple of hours ago did my 2nd Case medium stockman arrive. Like my first one, I went with the punch in place of the spey, which I find very useful. I've been using the yellow delrin for exactly one year now, and has seen a lot of pocket time, so I ordered the amber bone version. (it actually arrived 3 weeks ago, but I sent it back due to the punch not closing once opened.)

I cut open a lot of boxes at work and thats what the sheepsfoot on my stockmans mostly gets used for.

Maple tree- glad to hear that you got the punch model. I don't buy many Case knives these days but those 2 really caught my eye. The Carhartt line has one in stainless with a punch and black handles, but it's becoming harder to find. Definitely out there but you gotta poke around some😎👍
Thanks, Neal

It's odd that the same sheepfoot blade that is so good for precision cuts is also a great rough use blade. Plastic packaging, zip ties, cardboard, cloth tape, etc. I agree with previous posters who said the spey is a better scraper, and the clip or spear main stays clean for food or flesh, but the sheepfoot does get a lot of work.

So here it is. I am quite pleased with this knife. The fit and finish is otherwise good but the spey and sheepfoot rub against each other, so the sheepfoot will get scratched. This does not affect it functionally, this knife was intented to be a user. One of the sheats I made fits the knife.

This Case is actually slightly smaller and lighter than my Wic alox pioneer. Very easy to carry. Of course this does not have the tools, but is better suited for multiple cutting needs.
