Sheepsfoot, Wharncliff

Smart wood on that, Bocote, Zebra?

As a keen gardener I need to get one of those, bone version could be good too.

Thanks for showing it, Regards Will

Lots of good suggestions here. I especially like the Case Swayback Jack and the GEC Half-Congress, though I don't have any firsthand experience with them. They're on my wishlist though.

I would like to suggest the Queen #46 Half-Whittler. I have one with Sandvik 12C27 blades, although they're most often made with D2 steel. It's an outstanding knife as Queen has this pattern down pat. Nice fit and finish, and Queen has perfected the walk and talk of both blades; a difficult challenge with a two blades of dissimilar sizes share a single spring.

If your friend is patient and willing to search for one, tell him to look for a Winchester Congress Pen (2935). I picked one up last month and it has quickly displaced the Queen as my favorite whittling knife. This is one of the Black Box Winchesters, made by Queen and long discontinued, but they can still be found in the secondary market. The 2935 is a little larger than the #46 so it is more comfortable during use. Its blades are made from 1095 steel. And it's pretty!

Good luck with your search.

The Queen 1/2 congress in D2 has an excellent Sheepsfoot as the main blade
The S&M 20th series Cotton Sampler Jr in orange bone is an excellent large single bladed Sheepsfoot

Then there are sailing knives or a sailors knife and the British Army clasp that has a Sheepsfoot as a main blade
