I was gifted a Sheffield 12102 for singing in a wedding. Very little info found online about it. All I know is Sheffield Brand and Stainless China marked blade.

Anyone got experience? I know it is pretty much a less expensive version of a Buck 110, but it feels sturdy enough and locks up tight. I am hoping I might have a good working knife out of it for no money.

Cheap stuff sold at Walmart. If you end up liking it go to Walmart and get a buck 110, because chances are it's the design you'll end up liking and not actually the knife itself.

How do know you that? What if he finds the steel good enough and really doesn't like the design? Its not universally liked, you know. Why spend more on the Buck?

If doesn't like the design that would mean that didn't really end up liking the knife.
It's a form of buck 110 imitation and if he likes it he owes it to himself to try the real deal because nothing compares.

I just looked it up, and it looks like it came from the same factory making counterfeit buck 110's ( this is just a statement of how much like a buck 110 it really looks )

I'm not saying that everyone automatically likes the buck 110 , but he did take the time to ask about quality so he must have so.e interest in using it ( ie a 110 copy )

My uncle died recently and I was given his 110 also. Not sure on year, I just know that I prob won't be using it. I will put it up. At some point I will buy a legit 110.

I know I like the knife design, in fact I would love to have a fixed blade with same dimensions. I just wondered if anyone had a Sheffield and if it was a little better than expected to be.

Go on the buck section, because buck has actually come out with a fixed blade version of the buck 110 and there's a thread about it .
There's also a data chart and other info to help you date your uncles buck 110. I think you should honor him and use it on special occasions 👍
People who are into only ultra modern knives have to hate on the 110 because it's old school and a little heavy ( it comes with a nice piece of leather for a reason )
If the knife seems decent I'd use it, I've had s few Sheffield knives and they were crap but since the knife comes from all different factories some are probably better
