I Ordered an A.Wright & Son's Lambfoot, and it came in today. I don't think I've ever had a knife look less like its picture.

I mean, I know stag is a natural material, and dealers always put the best examples on their sites, so it's not just that. I don't think it's even the same brand- it isn't stamped A Wright.
I don't know if I'll send it back or not at this point, as I'm kind of in shock. From what I've read about Sheffield knives, they can be somewhat roughly finished working man type knives, but this one is really rather crude.

:eek::confused::grumpy: I'd return it...

Good luck! :)

*ETA: If the dealer doesn't make this right, r8shell, could you please post in the GBU? Been looking at some A.Wright folders and wouldn't want to support a dealer with poor customer service...

Wow, that's not even close!

Gah! Email the seller for return authorization with both pics, wrap that puppy up and away!

Is that the only tang stamp r8shell? The one shown is the same as on Trevor Ablett knives - he buys the blades in. That stag is done very similar to on one of my Ablett knives. All the A Wright knives I've seen in stag have had stag similar to the dealer's pic, though I know that all the Sheffield cutlers are having difficulty getting hold of stag at the moment (and in some cases substituting camel bone and calling it 'stag bone', the old Sheffield name for jigged bone).

It seems to me that, at a minimum, the tang mark should match the one in the site picture. That stag looks pretty awful..... I think I'd try and get an exchange or refund.

Yes Jack, that's the only mark.

I think I will email the dealer about a return. I'm really not picky, but I wasn't expecting the stag to look that bad. Plus, I really wanted to check out a Wright & Son's knife, and I don't think this is one.

Very sorry you've not had better service r8shell. Whoever you bought this from is a disgrace (I hope you'll name and shame them elsewhere). I despair at the morons running what's left of the Sheffield cutlery industry, they couldn't sell water in the middle of the Sahara :(

lets see, different nail nick, vast difference the quality of the stag, no blade etch, different tang stamp including the makers mark not even being present on yours, Scales are so radically different that the knife goes from nice and slim to rather chunky, I am not sure due to angle but I think the pins in the scales are in different places. Look at the bright side at least both are lambsfoot and have similar bolsters. This may not be a bad knife but it is sure not the knife you ordered. Dealer needs to get something more representative on thier webside. Unless you really like it back it goes.

I took a deep breath and braced myself before opening the thread and even that wasn't enough!

I'm embarrassed by our, once proud Sheffield knife industry. Unfortunately I think it has reached a point where I would recommend only purchasing one that you have had in your hand to look over:(

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. If it were a $20 dollar knife, I'd keep it and use it, it probably cuts just fine. But I paid three times that, and feel like a chump!

The more I look at it, if it is bone, rather than stag the real problem is the crazy way it's shaped. The knife in the dealer's picture would look nice enough in a well fitted polished bone.

If it were mine , I think I'd feel

Disappointed.
Disillusioned.
Mislead.
Annoyed.
Educated .

What a shame , I hope you get it sorted .

Chump - no. Things happen to all of us just some business to take care of for you. The dealer should be embarrassed though.

That is a poor representation of Sheffield cutlerys work IMO It would be going back with a noncomplimentary note.

With such a handle I expect it to just dispensary in your pocket. Such a thin and slender knife. You wont know it's there.

I hope the dealer can see what everyone here is seeing.

I recently got my A. Wright & Son Lambsfoot with a Rosewood handle and it looks exactly like the pics on their site.
It is very good quality for the price and the service I received (bought in their own web shop) was awesome.

It has only one tang stamp as well, but that one reads:

Code:
A. WRIGHT
& SON LTD
SHEFFIELD
ENGLAND

So I do not think yours ia an A. Wright knife at all.

I agree 100% here, very sorry about that r8shell.

The vendor you chose does not seem to be a good one, I'd return the knife if possible!

A Wright & Sons site is run by one of Sheffield's very few remaining cutlery shops. I've only ever had good service from them too.
