Does anyone have any experience with the Sheffield M.O.D. Survival knife? Is it a nice knife?

There's an interview on you tube where Ethan Becker says this knife was the inspiration for the BK2. ( I think anyway)

while I've never handled one myself (yet), they are moderately popular amongst bushcrafters in the UK.
out of the box, they make reasonable choppers for realy rough use, but won't really cut in the traditional sense.
to get the most out of them, you need to re-profile the edge. some guys take off the coating aswell, but that seems to be more asthetics than anything.

quality wise they are supposed to be decent for what they are, which is a thick chunk of steel with two shaped wood (or resin, in the versions like you show) slabs bolted on to the side. it's not a sophisticated design, but it's well made.

I've owned one of these for many years and have nothing but praise for it. I used it mostly while deer hunting, preparing my area by cutting shooting lanes and trimming branches around my tree stand. It's chopped and hacked it's way through everything in the woods of Ohio and Penn. and never let me down. I highly recommend it.

:D I got mine in Feb. Have always wanted one,but was taken aback by the sharpness of the blade. Contacted the dealerthat I bought it from, and he told me its main use was splitting wood for fires and shelter building.:D

I was interested in these knives myself for a little while, but I couldn't find any for under $80, even on fleabay, so I abandoned the idea pretty quick...

I'm planning to buy the Israeli commando knife too, any thoughts about that one?

whatever your thoughts might be about Israel, I'm 100% certain they wouldn't send their troops into combat with any crappy equipment.

at a wild guess, i'd say an Israeli commando knife would be pretty decent.

Never seen one!!!

The only issued knife is a Pilot Survival knife for the mine clearance boys.

Bayonets are issued for ceremonial purposed only and returned after the parade!

I found a Web-tex model fromwww.outdoorgb.com- for about $56.00 shipped- it's supposedly M.O.D. spec- certainly looks like most of the rest I've seen, with hardwood handle, big rivets and Parkerizing. Has a cheapo-but- adequate nylon DPM sheath. It isn't stamped with a country of origin, but Web-tex is a British company. It is a beastly great knife, for sure - someone once observed that these knives are like sharpened pry bars. Anyway, this is the cheapest I was able to find, and it seems to be worth the money.

Well, I don't think I did too badly on this deal. The knife seems to be well-made. I have nothing to say about any of their other products, having had no experience with any of them.
