Glad you're enjoying it, Neeman.:cool: (Oh, and check your PM's.)

elliot i really like the way the handles taper on this one. is that cocobolo?

Hi Dennis. I believe it's rosewood or cocobolo. I had it for a few years before sending it to Neeman so I'm not completely certain.

This is Rosewood.
Wonderful stuff and rosewood is the only scale I remember seeing in England on mens' working knives.

On old Irish gardener took care of our garden.
He had an amazing life, and he was my elder in my life.
He had a knife similar to the one Elliott gifted me...

Trevor Ablett also offers Buffalo and stag

All this caused me to order a single bolster in stag...the influence of this place!

They've sold out due to recent massive interest, have to wait a few weeks it seems:grumpy: But, it's something to look forward to,like spring(a long way off:D)

Thought I'd bring this one back with an update.

It's a mixed bag :(

I certainly did have to wait a long time, got the knife in mid May.Demand is high it appears, the website now warns potential customers of a long wait.
The knife itself is basically sound but it's different from the one I ordered or in the catalogue picture:grumpy: I fancied a single bolster knife in stag and I like the Ablett approach of having a rather small bolster, something different. The one I got is Barlow style having a large brass bolster, not what I really was after and not shown at all in their catalogue!

Spring is stiff but I like that, there were a lot of sharp brass filings in the liners (something you would NOT want to get under your thumbnail:eek:)and a lot of blackish muck grease. After a decent clean and oiling it began to grow on me. 3.5" solid workman's knife, the stag is quite crude but well matched and not stupidly 'obese' It's nicely hafted on the liners and bolster and in time I reckon it will take on a nice colour. Good in the pocket too as it's not bulky. Blade is centre and flush open and shut(an important thing for me) No half stop. Generally well constructed appealing with a rustic authenticity for sure. However, the carbon steel seems really tough to get an edge on! I'm not used to this in carbon knives at all. It would make a good outdoor knife/horticulture but so far I can't get in nearly sharp enough. Stones and Sharpmaker seem to be fazed by it.

Mixed bag yes, but it has undeniable appeal-even if it wasn't what I ordered.

Does sound like a mixed bag. I bet you were disapointed
If it wasn't the 1 you ordered & is more than slighlty different, send it back.
Most unusual you can't get a decent edge, I'ld send it back.
mitch

Had the same problem with mine. I won't carry a knife that won't take a good edge. Gave it away in the end.

The Ablett knives I have, hold a wicked razor sharp edge

I had a Ettrick (double blades lambsfoot and pruning blades) which I gave to a gardener friend of mine, they held excellent edges
