Sheffield Still Kickin'

I wonder if it's different batches of steel or heat treatment causing variations because I've had the same problem with some Bokers I've had. I had to thin the edge down a lot before they'd cut any sense and even then they wouldn't hold that edge too good.

Seems funny that some cut great and some don't even among the same brand.
 
You are probably right, I don't know if Ablett buys in his blades or does the whole business himself. Never (yet) had a problem with any German made Bökers, very sharp and easy to sharpen. I wouldn't mind handing over this Ablett to somebody with professional skills and see if they can edge it up, I'd like to be able o use it.
 
The Bokers I had problems with were German.

One was a Canoe and the other a Barlow

They cut OK now but it took some work on the edges.
