12" overall, 5mm thick 01tool steel.

I've made a bunch of drawings to get the harmony right. I'm thinking of a eye shaped steel guard.

Thoughts so far?

The blade style looks something like the Sheffield Ministry of Defense knife that I modified by replacing the handle with a wrap, and thinning out the blade. I like your design.

Thanks! I'am no expert but i think that the Sheffield spear point bowie's is the mother of family line among fighter knives.

This is one example made by Crown Cutlery Co, Sheffield England about 1900 but there are dozens of makers and variations of the slight design,

peppen, love the idea .

Maybe look to the united states M5 bayonet for some inspiration for the blade profile and guard shape, or am I way of what you want to achive?

I also think that it looks too straight , but find that once the steel hits the grinder things usualy end up curved anyway.

Maybe throw some San Francisco flare into it. Something like a Michael Price or Will & Finck bowie.

@Tryppyr. :) You are right, I noticed the original spear point Sheffield bowie's has smooth curves if you look closely. I,m going to hand tool it out of a precision ground bar. That is the reason why it lacks curves at this stage.

@wack. The blade on the M5 is made by Eickhorn, the same company also makes the blade for the Swedish AK4 Bayonet. I have been playing whit the idea of using that blade on a custom knife. Its quit mean military looking. I'm going for more of a gentleman's look. :) I think i might even ad a stag handle.

@Safta Nice, especially Michael Price appeals to me.

I have ordered the bars and i will draw some more designs before cutting out some wood prototypes.

That is an awesome design! Cant wait to see it finished!

Can I ask what the plastic drawing aid is? not the protractor, the blue one?

I think you design is fine, but the blade shape would benefit from a swedge, this would break up the long upper line. Just a thought.

and this is finally beginning to give way. I think I might move out the work bench in the garden and start working next week.

Any how. I did a lite mockup of the handle. The handle needs to be 24mm wide and the rear guard needed to be shortened to 12mm. Now it finally feels right, actually surprisingly good.

For what it's worth, I prefer for the ricasso of the blade and the handle to be the same width on these types of knives.

I've been pushing the design to keep the difference down to a minimum. It did not feel disturbing at the mockup. But i understand your point, he more modern look is appealing. I choose this design because i think i can pull it of and it appeals to my engineering side. :)
