Some of you have asked to show how I make my shelters. Today I made one and got some pics for you. I'm still practicing, so any comments (positive and negative) are welcome.

This is one of my favorite designs. It's a 2 person shelter, but it's also good for one person and gear/equipment. This shelter is very warm inside, so there's no need to make a fire in it. I've took pics of how I build it. The knife I used was my new SHSH 5/16th. I'm really happy with her, for shelter building (chopping) she perfoms better then my SFNO's.

First I made a tripod. This is the basic design. But you have to be becarefull you don't make it to short because otherwise you can't sleep in it. Measure out your size with a long stick.

Then when the tripod is standing, put some sticks against it. Pictured is the back side of the shelter.

Here's the front side of the shelter. You can see I put also some branches against the inside of the shelter.

This is the inside after I'd put all the isolation material against it.

Because in Holland it's forbidden to make shelters and camping it's also important to camouflage it. Here is the shelter from a distance.

I hope you found it interesting and if you have a question just shoot it:D

Wow, nice work! Do you do anything for the ground inside the shelter?

Thats pretty cool how you dont need string or anything to hold it together.

Now I know why i need a chopper...to build a shelter deep in the woods when zombies attack :)

thanks for the pics

I think that looks cool, and works good -

What is the moss-looking material used to cover? (Moss? :) )

That looks like a lot of chopping - and the SHSH is 'The Precious' for a reason! :D

Are you saying that 'shelter building' or 'camping' or 'both' is prohibited in Holland?

Thank you for the information!

Great sequence of pictures !! Thanks for sharing.

Looks cozy. Thanks for the pics! Sorry to hear about the law restricting shelter building. Are you not allowed to camp?

Wait a minute! You are legally prohibited from camping or building a shelter in Holland (I had to add my voice of disbilief to the rest)?!?!?! Why? What would they do to you if they caught you building your shelters? That just blows my mind!

Thnx for the kind words guys.

Yes shelter building and wildcamping is not allowed in NL unfortunatly. Camping is only allowed and campingsites, but you can't make your own shelter there and you can't chop a tree. It's only allowed in campers and tents, etc. People in NL are getting shocked when seeing a knife on a campsite:eek:
I've they get you while you're wildcamping you can get a warning or a ticket. I'm not sure how much a ticket would be. But the worst part is that they will confiscate your knives.:grumpy: :grumpy:

But I've done alot of wildcamping and never got caught and hopefully never will be caught....

if you get caught you will probably get a ticket and have to hand-over your knife for some time

yep the Dutch law is a paradox!!! camping (off camping grounds) is forbidden and you will get a speeding-ticket for 3km/h over the limit. but you all know what IS possible and complete legal here hahaha

nice shelter Jur!

Very COOL Jur!!! Again, another nice set of pics and informative too!!!  With shelters like that.... I don't think you'll get caught. GREAT job on it!

Loved seeing the SHSH II in action!!! GREAT... now I need to find a SHSH in INFI for a user. :grumpy: ;) :p

Thanks for sharing.
