Not trying to bad mouth him, but I'm relatively new to this forum and don't know where/ who to turn to.

In March, ShepardCC and I worked out the details on some custom scales for my mini-rukus and sharpen my mini-ritter. Was quoted 5-13 weeks.

Sent both knives, he cashed the check. We have had pretty good comm's through most of the wait, until about the couple of weeks.

We are around 5 MONTHS now, and the communication (IM's here, emails, posts in his thread; http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1085174-ShepardCC-Custom-Knife-Handles-Kydex-anything-amp-everything has stopped. Like I said, I'm not mad, just want an update and the knives.

Any help is appreciated.

he stays super busy and yeah communication is come and go , but i promise the work you are having done will be worth it..

he did some for me and told me, hey it will take about 6months , just sit back and i will get it done , so i didn't email him much , just waited and when he needed something he emailed me and we worked it out...after 5 months was up he sent my knives and they were spectacular....smooth , no problems or rough edges...he does great work i promise and he is a cool guy......just doesn't email much.......i hate waiting too , but it will be worth the wait.........

hope this helps you

I don't mind the wait and i can go without comm's.

If he'd have said 6 months, I wouldn't have even tried to contact him until the time was up or close.

Thanks for the reply, makes me feel a little better.

WOW....Yet again the impatience of people with custom items being built..
People dont just do this for a living,..They have lives and jobs..ALSO emergencies etc happen.
The person you speak of perhaps is backed up with orders..May be NOT Perfect in your
standards of communication.
BUT his over 1000 posts and VERY VERY solid feedback here..
You being here 2 years + and have 16 posts. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

OFTEN our impatience get the best of us with waiting..
If you didnt want to wait..EVEN longer.. Should have bought from
one of the MANY people that can do those customs for you with a better turn around time you seem to require
I wish you luck in BF

Fullly Agree with others and Karda--Jay----Communication is a true barometer of good customer service

Well, when a maker says 5-13 weeks then that is what it should be, right?????????????????????????????? Maybe an email to say he got behind, right??????????????????????????????????????????

Yes, kjd....a maker should keep his word, whatever that may be and communicate with his customers. One that cannot be bothered to update his customers in a timely manner after taking their hard earned money deserves neither their business or their understanding.

I can't argue with that. I'm a big fan of Eric's work, but sometimes you have to prod him to get the goods. I agree his work is worth the wait, but the communication is lacking.......just being honest. Eric and I have the brother from another mother type of relationship and have gone round and round at times........I just received seven of his scales last month and have two more on order.....if that tells you his level of craftsmanship. All of my Hinderers and most of my ZTs are sporting his work.....it is truly a cut above everybody else out there...in my humble opinion. I say wait and enjoy the results.....but fume and rant privately 'cause it helps to kick things at times!!

I do not think the OP is wrong in this case for posting. If he was told approx. 1-3 months and paid up front. Obviously, 5 months and no communication is not cool. (assuming the stated info is correct).
Sounds like this guy does good work, but gets in over his head > which that is his fault. Perhaps he could be more up front with his customers and give them a more accurate wait time. No one is going to be mad that he got the work done early.

Also, I do not think the "newbie" thing here is relevant. We all were new at some point. Seems his statements are true based on other's feedback.

bummer that eric has not updated you. i hope he gets a chance soon. Just do know that you will not be disappointed with his work and you will get it. Ive got 3 or 4 blades with him now that he has had for 6-months. He told me a few weeks ago he had started a new job and the hours were making it much harder to get things done and i said to put my stuff on the backburner and try his best to get caught up. I'm sure he is not ignoring you, but i know he has alot of stuff waiting for work and you may have slipped through the updates and he always takes about a week to get back to me. hope that helps but do not fear that he is going to walk away with your money or stuff. and he is the best pimper ive ever had work on my stuff. I put his work above most of the custom knife makers ive had build me blades. simply top notch. my only wish is he could to ti work. haha. plus he does not even have a drill press. his stuff is 100% by hand. that takes time. but like the others i suggest you wait for him to get back to you. and wait for his work. again its well worth it.

I appreciate everyone's responses.

Like I said I'm not mad or trying to complain. His comm's were ok up until a couple of weeks ago, then I guess I got a little nervous lol.

Thanks again everyone.

I will attest Erics work is well worth the wait
My apologies if I sounded in appropriate in any way
You do have every right to be concerned and a degree
of impatience is justified for certain
You will NOT be in any way disappointed ..I feel.
I wish you luck..

No worries my brother, we've all been there. I send a knife out for work much like a new father allows the nurse to take the new-born infant to the nursery.........we've all been there.

I appreciate everyone's responses.

I apologize for the delay and the bad communication. I try my best not to make excuses for my behavior or actions but sometimes life just hits you hard. I've been super busy. My mom has been in and out of the hospital for the last 3 months for heart problems. I also started a new job to help bring in more money to help out my parents and it was supposed to be part time but they have me working 52 hours a week. It's a stressful job that I hate and have contemplated quiting almost from day one. I've been stressed and depressed and basically avoided most things. I come home exhausted and sleep.

Mr. Kimber. I apologize for the delay. I just have to finish hand sanding and shaping the tops of the scales and your order will be finished.

I'm embarrassed to let people down and more embarrassed that I have excuses.
I've always tried to not be that kind of guy...but I really think that at this point in my life that I'm stretched way to thin for all the things I'm trying to do. I'm only one man doing many things alone without help. I've been thinking of postponing my services for a few months until I can finish helping my mom with her health issues and also help get my parents back on their feet since my mom has missed so much work the last 3-4 months.
It's 6 am here and I just woke up to a friend telling me about this posting. I haven't been on here or my Facebook page or website for a few weeks. I have to get ready for work so I apologize if this is short or has spelling/grammar errors but I'm in a rush. Again I apologize for the delay and I really really appreciate your support. I'm very happy and humbled to see you stand up for me and I cant begin to express my appreciation to you. Thank you so much!

Really man thus guys well over the time the custom work was quoted to be done this guy has every right to voice his concern gtfo of here. Op I hope it all works out for you I would question also after no coms

Good to see that Eric gave a response here, but I just thought I would weigh in here as well. I personally also had a really bad experience with ShepardCC and would not recommend him to anyone. The final work was looked great but he consistently broke promises on delivery dates, messed up my order multiple times and couldn't seem to keep any records internally. I don't know how many times I had to remind him what my order was and he still didn't deliver the correct combination. He also had told me the work was done prematurely, but after paying him the final payment I got a response that he was confused and he actually finished another customers work. He didn't refund my money and still took multiple months to finish the work. :thumbdn:

I'm sorry for your troubles Eric but that also is part of life, at the very least this should be communicated to your customers and not used as an excuse later.

I actually agree totally with this......While I totally sympathize with Eric's position, the OP had every right to post and feel a bit concerned. I don't see where the newness or experience of a member changes the dynamic of this particular equation........

I always hate to see when a service provider gets in over his head. Sometimes the problems are simple sometimes the problems are self inflicted and totally avoidable. I have been on the other side of the fence waiting and waiting. The little white lies and delays can make you mad. I actually started making knives because of some of the people I got hooked up with before I found the forums.

ShepardCC just step back from orders for a bit . Take care of your Mom and get your life in order. Your depressed because of this and you will actually feel better when you admit to yourself that you are in no position to take other peoples money and or knives.

OP I feel your pain and fully understand your post and you are for sure in the right. ShepardCC look forward to seeing you come out of the slump and get yourself organized and on the right path.
