Sherpa Crow Blade

I would't be able to afford one anyway :o but that "ninja-to" guard is hideous.
13" sounds like a good size. What are Yvsa's thoughts?

I like the long length, with the square guard or otherwise- as long as it HAS a guard.

I agree with Spectre. And a guard as simple as this one could be removed easily without harm to the handle or blade. But if it came with no guard, it would me much harder to add one, of course.
And the virtue of the square guard is not only a lower cost, but it offers practicality- it'll set stable on a flat surface. That's nothing to sneeze at, is it?

I've always thought simple was elgant and best, and that is the appeal of this blade to me. Even though this basic type of blade I have less use for than a HI Khukuri, because it is so Well Done, I really do want one. Remember, I'm not a Knife guy- all you loons are the Knife Guys. I'm a gun guy, er, Gun Loon.

I like this knfe with, or without the guard. Sweet that they made it that way without all our damned advice and opinions interfering too. Not that our designs and input isn't important (and a dang intertaining read too), but its nice to see just exactly how they would do one if they had no guidance. From scratch. A custom knife by a master craftsman in his element. Generations of doing just this thing manifested by a master!

In the year after the passing of our two dearest friends, Bill and Rusty, we've chugged along carrying the Spirit of the Cantina. The khukuri productions offered from HI have simply strode alongside us, and even sprinted ahead with wonderful form and value. It has been a blessed year.

I like the guard. It can be engraved!

I like the brass bolster BEHIND the guard. (I'm thinking NON HABAKI here)

More engraving space.

Put a round brass inlay instead of the yin yang thingy. yet more space to engrave!

Once again, echoing Spectre's previous comments, perhaps this is the most beautiful of all HI knives I have seen, to date.

I will find a way to buy one, Lord willing.

It has been a good year.

My thought's.
Well Jerry I have to agree that the guard is hideous *BUT* that doesn't matter because it lends itself well to many kinds and ways of manipulation so the hideousness becomes moot and it's just a guard.:D
I had to go and bring the pix over to this thread because even though I sorta knew what the knife looked like I needed a refresher.

My first thought when I first saw it on Yangdu's post was, "Me Likey!!!!" Even though I commented with Lovely, Lovely.
This is one of the nicest looking knives that has come out of BirGhorka in a mighty long time and I'm really pleased to finally see a more conventional style of blade/knife.

An 18" model would be really interesting and depending on the length of the handle and the balance it could very well be one helluva fighting knife similar to the Trisul which I think Howard has compared to the Ontario Bagwell Bowie line.  But an 18" model wouldn't be for everyone.

And I think a 15" model would still be on the long side but would maybe serve really well for a longer Camp Knife for those who like their knives on the long/large side.:)

A 13" model would IMO be almost perfect. Say an 8" blade and a 5" handle. Also I'd really, really, like to see the guard at least 1/8" thick and 3/16" would be even better!!!! Again, In My Opinion.
a 13" model almost falls in the specs of what I think a perfect all around size knife is.
To me a perfect all around knife has a handle about 5" long and a blade about 7" with an 1/8" to 3/16" thick guard.

Why y'all ask?
Well a 5" handle gives several options of holding the knife and is long enough to affect the balance depending upon how the handle is grasped.
A 7" blade IMO is an optimum killing blade for most anything small enough to kill with a knife or spear as well as anything just large enough to be dangerous like a feral hog but still small enough to kill with a knife.
Grizzly bears are out except in dire emergencies but an Oklahoma/Arkansas Black Bear would/could be an option if absolutely necessary.

What a lot of folks don't realize is that when a body is subjected to a heavy stab the blade goes almost twice as deep as it is long depending on where the stab is placed and I'm thinking soft tissue such as the belly.
A heavy stab in the ribs may go a little deeper but the rigidity of the ribs is gonna hold it back to an extent.

If the guard is 1/8"-3/16" thick it facilitates a couple of holes being drilled in opposite sides so that a shaft could be tied onto the knife to make a usable spear which could be useful in certain situations.
Actually from the appearance of this guard a hole could be drilled on all four sides making it even easier to tie onto a shaft.

Would I like one?
Yes! Very much so but the final price would depend on whether I could purchase one or not or whether Barbie was able to win our allotment at the Cherokee Casino for the month.<VBESEG> Wink, Wink.
Living on a fixed income can be the drizzlin schitz when it comes to playtime but we do pretty well and are able to buy ourselves a toy every now and then.
I'm really anxious to see the finished 13" model and would dearly love it if someone could do a pass around on one like Dan K did on the antler handle knife he made!!!!
A BIG Thumbs Up!!!!

the tsuba/hilt/than... it's square in the pictures, i'd prefer either oval, or none, but that's me. if engraved at all (yeah, i know added cost), that would rock all the more.

bladite

I'd go for the oval. The square hilt was the first thing I noticed in the photo; don't care for those sharp corners.

P.S. And I like the 18" model.

I like it! Very practical design, nothing extreme in any of its features. And I agree that a plain old square guard is REALLY easy to customize into exactly what you want.

Count me in for one. Better if it has oval knife guard and oval handle.

Munk, count me in! How much and when?:D

Yangdu, thank you for starting this project for us.
