We all have that one knife, the one that means the most to us. The one that if we lost all the others we'd be crushed but if we lost that one irreplaceable blade we'd be devastated. Let's see your Pride & Joy...

It might be your fathers knife...

Maybe a gift from a knife maker here on the forums (I knew Charlie Mike when... ;))

Maybe it's just a fine example of the cutler's art...

Perhaps just a trusty companion that holds many memories of good times. A knife that you count on to always get you out of a jam...

Might have been your very first knife... ;)

Or a gift from a long gone friend or family member...

What ever it is that make it so special, what is the one knife, your pride and joy, that you'd be devastated if it were lost?

My soon to be wife bought this in secret and had it customized for my birthday

I am not too sure. I think maybe my 0606CF on account of it's looks, but also because I took it apart and polished the hell out of every surface I could, including the pivot hole in the blade, and filed in a detent ramp so now the thing is freakishly smooth. That being said, my Sebenza has been with me for like 4 years and is probably my most-used knife, hell I even lost it in IKEA once and managed to find it again, so I feel a bond with that knife like no other

And one of the best gifts I've ever received, nearly 20 years ago:

I always loved that Benchmade, wish I'd bought one when they came out. Great knives folks keep 'em comin'.

T, got to ask-your OP says 'one': which out of that magnificent collection of yours is the One?:D

I was hopin' no one would catch that. ;) For me without a doubt would be my constant companion, my Nealy Aikuchi. I've carried this knife every day since I bought it 30+ years ago. In fact I recently saw Bud at a recent local show and showed him the knife, he hadn't seen it for 10 years when I stopped by his shop one day to have him make a new sheath for me as the old Kydex was cracking after 20 years of use and carry. I use this knife every day and because of all the memories and connections, I was my first custom knife, I became friends with the maker, it was his first knife as a full time maker, just too many reasons to list but if I lost the Aikuchi I'd be devastated.

Here she is, my pride and joy, late 80s Bud Nealy gun blued O1 with distal tapered tang and I ground an indexing mark into the dovetailed bolster so I could orient the knife without lookin'. As you can see the blade without the index would be difficult to accurately orient in the dark.

An interesting side note, when I ran Ito Bud at the show he offered to buy the knife back for $600, more than twice what I paid for it in the late 80s. When I told him if I ever decided to sell it I'd give him first choice. He invited me to hang out at his table and spent the next hour sayin' to me, "...Ted, show so&so the knife I made 30 years ago" He was calling people he knew over to check out the knife he made so long ago.

That's another reason that knife is "the one", the afternoon I spent at the show hangin' with Bud at his table. :) Hope this answered your question, I was so hopin' I wouldn't have to choose ;). Here's a few more pics of my baby, as you can see it's one custom meant to work and it's never spent a day in a display case or safe, I just hang it on the bedroom doorknob at the end of the knight. ;)

AWESOME Bud Nealy knife and background.

My first custom was a big(-ish) Bowie, so cant carry that.

BTW Stevie Ray was the man.

My one truly custom knife. One-off just for me during my second assignment in Hawaii. Got it 20 years ago.

My grandfathers Marbles Ideal. I thought I lost it in a move, and felt physically sick over it. I found it a few weeks later excactly where I had packed it away for safe keeping during the move and had promoptly forgotten about.

My first pocket knife given to me by my grandfather 55 years ago and brought back to life by Glennbad.

I'll never tell. I don't want to tempt the fates. When my time comes, if the weighing of my heart doesn't go as expected, Ammut is gonna work for her meal. Because I'm bringing a crocodile choppa with me.:-)

This one belonged to my late step-father - very sentimental attachment -

This old warrior I did lose - left it in a rental car apparently.....very sad the day I could not locate it - but I immediately sought out replacements from the great online auction site....

I have some ZT knives that were gifts, and also several gift knives from friends and one from my wife, and I never part with gift knives.

As far as a knife . . . oh man . . . don't make me choose.

This is going to require some real head scratching and honesty.

The first one that came to mind, though I reserve the right to post another . . .

My Ritter Grip M390 steel. Perfect heat treat (of what I have so far) and thin, thin, behind the edge CUTS REALLY WELL FOR A LONG TIME (of what I have so far). Top knife here

Or maybe this one because I have a bunch of work in it and it is all new to me and WORKING SO WELL (so far). Note the diamond pattern texture on the Grip and this one.

But then there is the GB One. I mean how could I ever . . .

It would have to be my Sebbie, my wife got it for me as a Christmas present and then sweet talked Butch into doing the conversion for my birthday a couple years later. And now he doesn't convert CR knives anymore, so definitely irreplaceable.

I don't have time to get pics right now but just wanted to say to the OP, great thread idea. I love when the history/story behind the knife surpasses the actual knife, especially in a time when everything is about lock strength/which steel/heat treat/etc
