Seems to me that a non-functional element such as a shield should be a matter of personal preference, so I voted for the third option in your poll. Having said that, my personal preference tends to be no shield on a Barlow that has letters or images stamped onto the bolster, while I'm fine with a shield on a "blank bolster" Barlow. But even I have exceptions to that "personal preference principle". This Remington Big Daddy Barlow (thanks, Shawn) has "Remington" stamped on the bolster, but I think it looks fine with the bullet shield, too. (I'm no Barlow expert, though, and don't especially carry the pattern very much, although I like the examples I have.)
