Shiny Steel

Thanks Moparsbob, No serious scratches. Just a slightly duller finish than I wanted. I have quite a few gun patches. Maybe this is a good chore for some of the 12ga ones that are too big for anything else LOL. The shirt I was using strips of is cotton but more like a fleece. You know, the old style sweatshirts that everyone wore back when hoodies where only the brand name of a of a peanut grower...

Sounds like I am just too impatient and I need to just keep working at it. I think I will change up to one of the 12ga cleaning patches and build up the simichrome in it like you recommend.

Or use the buffing wheel on a dremel along with the simichrome. Speeds things up immensely.

I but all 12ga or 3x3 cleaning patches and just cut them to the size I need. Lot easier and takes up less space using just the one size.

Also good for applications like this or wiping down blades, handles and such.
I sent auntie a big bag awhile back for oiling up blades and handles as they come out of the magic box from Nepal.

Heya Kukrifan,
I went with the buffing wheel on the dremel and some red jewelers rouge for the ones that needed a bit of extra effort. Then I am using 12ga patches with the simichrome and elbow grease as a maintainer on those and the ones that were already reasonably shiny. Then I bought a couple of those rust erasers in the fine quality and I am using that on the villager edges, but left the villager forge scale alone so it looks really good with the black and then satin finished edge.
Seemed like the best balance between amount of work and great results hehe. I discovered I am a bit too lazy to do all the more difficult ones entirely by hand.
