Hi to all the US and Australian BladeForum's members just wanted to check with you guys regarding the shipping of a Buck 110 folding knife from the US to Australia is it legal in Australia ?Just to have a confirmation before i order it . Cheers and TQ for your time.

Well, from my understanding, Australia has very restrictive gun laws..why would knives be any different? But, I'm not an expert on what you can and cannot have.

If it was me, I would check with Australian Post Office and Customs. Another place would be whichever shipper the seller would use. UPS, DHL, FedEx...

It is 100% fine mate as long as it ain't the auto version. I've imported them numerous times before and even in the dark days of the Aussie 'flick test' prohibition (thankfully now a thing of the past) two hand openers were fine to import.

General rules are now:
A) manual folders including flippers all good;
B) No daggers, balisongs, autos, k bits, assisted, concealed knives (i.e. Belt buckle blades), trench knives (any knives with a finger hole), gravity knives, push blades, throwing knives and any other dodgy stuff I missed which they deem to be for killin only. There is also something they don't like about non metal blades

In short your regular old pocket knife is all good mate!

...... this pretty much sums it all up. The main issues that caused us issues here in Aus were from 2012 till late 2015 when the Customs Regulations were changed and VERY actively enforced without any single approach to the testing/determination. Even during that period a Buck 110 would have been fine. Daggers can be done without too much effort on the part of the importer (individual) and if they jump through the few small hoops and have the paperwork in order it's OK, but worth bearing in mind. I imported VERY few folders (I am more of a fixed blade kind anyway) during that period but had no problem with what I did (most Emersons at that time). I pretty much recommend USPS (with a shipping type you and the seller are comfortable with) for knives and firearm parts (yes I can import all the firearm parts I want as long as I do my legal document part at this end) to Aus.

I shipped a folder there years ago, it failed their "flip test" so was sent back to me. I made it less flip friendly (while not messing up the knife) and it was fine the next time. Not sure about the current deal there though.

I shipped that exact knife as a thank-you gift to a member in Australia that proxied for me here on the forum just a few months back. I was somewhat worried as I had never shipped INTL before, but it went without a hitch.
