Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows if it is OK(Legal) to ship a knife(Kabar) to my son stationed in Afghanistan. He's stationed at Camp Leatherneck so the address is an FPO?

I've got a standard one in desert tan I don't need and should suite him just fine. No need for him to buy one there if I can get this to him in short order.

If this is not the right forum category to post this question in please accept my apologies.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Unless things have changed it shouldn't be a problem. Though Knives with a 7" or greater blade either have to be carried in gear or sent back via registered mail they can't be placed in the totes/footlockers that the unit ships. Things change though so your best bet might be to ask your son.

I have sent several knives over in care packages without a problem. Many thanks to your son for his service.

I don't know the answer but maybe throw in a Spyderco or swiss army knife that he can use for the more mundane everyday tasks. I'm sure he wouldn't mind some of his favorite candy to remind him of home, assuming it won't melt. I haven't been in his exact position but its amazing how something that is normally small and trivial can be a big morale booster in some situations.

Give him our thanks and may he get back home safely and quickly.
