Shipping and handling cost

If you break out the shipping cost you can give a shipping discount for multiple items. I don't know if Yangdu plans to do that.

I was stunned that DotD's didn't include shipping, and I wondered how you could do it. After learning, myself, how much it takes to ship stuff (when we sent you all that wood) this honestly makes me feel better.

What he said

Times are tough all over. The last thing any of us want to see is H.I. out of business. Even with the new policy, H.I. khuks are an incredible deal.

It's still cheaper than flying to Nepal to buy my khuks.
I was wondering when you would need to start charging for shipping. Gotta do what you have to, in order to stay in business, and I don't think that this will even make a dent in the sales of DOTD's. Us HIKV infected collectors will never even notice the cost.

Amen to that!
Not just over the past year, but the whole decade, I've had to see so many businesses close down, scale down, or relocate, because of high costs, and a crappy economy. Even if it wasn't a business I patronized, it still bothers me to see it happen.
The handful of enterprises that have survived, even flourished, have done so thanks to the support of dedicated customers. Based on what I see here, i have high hopes that HI will be one of those.

Totally understandable, Yangdu. You need to keep your business afloat and keep the kamis working.

JMO but I think it might be more efficient to simply raise the cost of the item to account for the increase in shipping.

For example a khukuri which previously would sell for $100 on a DOTD would now cost $120 because of the increase in shipping cost.

I'm still in for buying some more H.I. goodies. Even paying more for shipping it's worth it if it means obtaining the finest khukuris in the world and helping support the incredibly skilled Kamis.

Yeah, but then Yangdu would be paying taxes on that much more money. This way she can Expense the shipping cost.

I think I've been misunderstood. I'm not talking about literally adding it to the price, as I've always presumed on a DOTD the price listed was including shipping anyway. Khukuris on this forum vary greatly in size and weight. You could see a 16" Sirupati or a 25" Sirupati. The 25" one could be considered a sword. Or not.

Things are tight all over you have to do what you have to do, I've been limited to only picking up items that really call to me, so if something really calls the added shipping wont be a issue...

I think that's the best policy. That was about what I did, when I ordered the M43: it was exactly what I'd been waiting for, and I simply took the risk and bought it, even though I wasn't sure I could afford it. I fully expected it to be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. But making those kinds of purchases seems to be good karma, especially around here.:)

I too have long been heavily surprised by the free shipping. Wasn't sure how she managed the expensive prompt shipping AND stay in business. Felt like I was robbing Auntie Yangdu not having to pay for it. Now I feel the prices are just a great deal instead of a screaming steal.

Same here with my CAK. While I knew I could afford (barely though), it ment I had to be a little tighter on money last month and hold off on getting a few other things but it was worth it in the end.

Thank you all for your continue supports to HI and Kamis

I want to give a "thank you" to Yangdu for posting this and point a couple things out.

We've all seen that DOTDs vary widely in price, depending on how Yangdu appraises each piece and if she's going to sell it for near regular price or at a deep discount. She could have easily just added to the prices and I doubt anyone would have noticed. So, kudos to her honest in dealing with us, that she's been so forthright with the information.

The other thing is, if this was posted on any other forum, this whole thread would probably have been a bitch session, whereas the support has been unanimous here, so kudos to you all as well.

I just caught a 13.00 dollar charge for a Fallkniven Idun, so those rates are more than fair..
