Has anyone had experience with the shipping from Grohmann to USA? I was going to roder just a sheath ($27.00 for a well-rated sheath sounds good to me!) but the "default" shipping was $27.00 too. Well, $54 sounds like a much less good deal. But it said that the actual rate will be adjusted after checkout. *AfteR* checkout, meaning I have to commit first.

I tried writing to them, but the have not responded to any of my emails to them. In fact, they didn't respond a few weeks ago when I asked some questions about the #4. Kind of rude now that I think about it.

Anyway does anyone have any inside info on how much shipping is likely to ding me for? I know just a sheath might cost less than a knife, but any info you have is something more than they are giving me. Thank you.

Welcome to the "fun" of international Postal services. I sent 6 knives to Canada (!), and it was $96! I'm currently STILL waiting for a knife from Austria. (Since January 2nd). At best: it's expensive, and uncertain..
Good luck!

International shipping rates are outrageous, sometimes amounting to more than the cost of the item. Don't know if there's any solution.

Grohmann won't answer to non business. Since the COVID and the storms that hit NS, their production is not as fast as it used to. They send thing in bulk and don't have deal on selling individual pieces, even when buying within Canada. Using their retailers gives you much better price and shipping.

The tax and law changes make it real hard on international shipping. Place Ebay and Etsy there are legit dealers) can't offer free shipping anymore.

I don't think asking about shipping on an item in my cart is "non business" but since Grohmann is too busy to deal with me, I'll deal with someone else. Knives of Alaska wrote back to me immediately so they'll do nicely.

He meant they deal with businesses, not individuals.

Oh, that does make more sense. But it amounts to the same thing. They will take an individual's money through their checkout system, and they have contact information for individuals to see. But they won't show the courtesy of returning a message to those same individuals. If they wanted to be strictly B2B I'd understand, but then they shouldn't have the shopping cart etc. At least that's my opinion.

They used to be different, but that's years ago, before the Covid. I totally understand your dissatisfaction with the current state of the company.

Nowadays, most places hardly even get stock from Grohmann. Their knives are not great value to quality, not great selling. It pains me to write this, as someone who love to support local business.

Can you think of any reason why that would have had the effect you're talking about? I mean... most businesses that sell online made money during the lockdowns, especially outdoor gear (or so I've heard). I guess it doesn't matter in the end. Maybe they'll snap out of it. We're just talking about returning emails and calls, and maybe a very simple website update. Oh well.

I’ve paid $100 aud to get a knife from the states. Average is $65-80. Welcome to the world of international knife collecting!

They probably could ship it the cheapest way CanadaPost in a small box for about $12.Sure there's a risk of loss,no options for insurance, and no tracking.Ultimately it's the retailer preference of Shipping method whether to go with the Post Office or with a Courier like Fedex or UPS

As a Canadian purchasing items from US Retailers are also a mixed bag. Some charging $16 - $35 for USPS First Class or Priority, sometimes $45-$50 Flat Rate Priority Mail the only option or $45 Fedex only - regardless of order amount and maybe a processing fee. Then there are the ones that Flat out - CONUS.
