I previously read some out dated posts about the problems getting a knife across the border from the US to Ontario. I understand that they send some sort of letter explaining why it was held at the boarder. Can anyone enlighten me to the procedure and if any one has won an appeal to have the knife released. Does anyone have any new information, I think the blog I saw was from 2007 or 2008. Thanks so much:o

Welcome.
As long as you're not trying to bring in autos, and as long as you buy from reputable dealers (see dealer forum, Canadian section) it should be smooth sailing. I have been buying knives from the U.S. for a while now, and it has been no problems.
Like I said, check the dealer forums, there is also mention of a few very good Canadian dealers also.
Cheers

I hate to say it, but nobody ever seems to win those appeals. The best you can do is export it back to the seller. They'll send a letter with an explanation on why it's being held. What was the knife?

I've had numerous knives shipped to me from the US, both from private individuals and dealers without any problems at all. The knives I refer to are fine art knives, double edged fighters, big/huge honkin' bowies and folders. I generally request shipment via USPS. I'm currently waiting on delivery for 4 knives and I am sure to receive them.
My experiece with purchases from outside North America is the same...never had an issue, never had a package opened, held or confiscated.
